How Do You Know?

“And it came about that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found some disciples, and he said to them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’  And they said to him, ‘No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.’  And he said, ‘Into what then were you baptised?’  And they said, ‘Into John’s baptism.’  And Paul said, ‘John baptised with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, Jesus.’  And when they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 19:1-5

“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, ‘Abba!  Father!’  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, as if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.” Romans 8:15-17

“How do you know when the Holy Spirit is living within you? – We must believe the truths about the Holy Spirit as they are revealed in Scripture, but that is not enough.  The truth has to step out of the Bible and into experience. – We do need an experientially expressed Christianity, where the truths of the Bible become translated into experience, and are seen to actually work in life.”*

Whenever you have the privilege of leading someone to the Lord and they choose to make that commitment, you have the joy of watching the Holy Spirit as He begins to change their priorities and their joy and peace begin to be evident in new ways.  It makes everything else worth it.  However, when we focus more on the Holy Spirit than on the Truth of Christ’s gracious sacrifice, we miss the hope and happiness that awaits.  The moment we give our life to Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence and begins to work, with subtle and sometimes amazing results, yet we can grieve Him and His work.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
