A Heavenly Archetype

"'And now Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the Lord's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?

"'Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.  Yet on your fathers did the Lord set His affection to love them and He chose their descendants, after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day.

"'Circumcise then your heart, and stiffen your neck no more.  For the Lord your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty,'" Deuteronomy 10:12-17a

Before a child is 5 years old they are "establishing" archetypes of the words we so easily use with them.  Let's take a glass, for example; pretty, shiny, see through and, of course, fragile.

A parent puts a glass down on the kitchen table.  Their 3-year old appears, as they so often do, and reaches for the glass.  The parent says, "Be careful not to knock the glass off because it will break!"

Well, what does that MEAN to the child...nothing the first time they encounter a glass.  Should they 'accidentally' knock it off the table, they will watch it with fascination as it falls so swiftly to the floor and shatters around them!

It is in the moments after, where an impression of what a glass breaking actually means.  In these moments the archetype of the glass is formed and it will always stay with them.

It comes from the reaction of the parent!  Some parents may shout and berate the child for being clumsy; others may gather the child to them and cuddle them safely away from the harmful shards.  For the rest of their life, a glass has a hidden, personal and special meaning.

God cared for and shepherded His chosen people with love and tenderness as well as with rules; somewhat like a parent working through step-by-step with a child, teaching them what is good for them.  To God's glory, He never gives up on us when we break those "glasses".  Our heart attitude when we realise the reality and truth of faith in Him...is also like a 'heavenly archetype'.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

160 Train Box Cars Per Day

"'Beware lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes which I am commanding you today; lest when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, and when your herds and your flocks multiply,

"'and your silver and gold multiply and all that you have multiplies, then your heart becomes proud, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

"'In the wilderness He fed you manna which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do good for you in the end.

"'Otherwise you may say in your heart, 'My power, and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.'  But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day..'" Deuteronomy 8:11-14, 16-18

How amazing God is with His provision!  When God led His three-million-member nation out of Egypt, they formed a grand parade stretching at least 40 miles into the desert.  If made into a column 50 abreast, the people would have had to march more than two full days just to cross the Red Sea!

What about food & water?  To sustain such a large population, God had to provide the equivalent of 160 train boxcars of food & 1,000 train tank-cars of water every day – enough to fill a train nine & one-half miles long!  Does that do anything for your faith?

For 1.2 million adults to die in the space of 40 years, would require more than 80 funerals per day - one every 20 minutes - a constant reminder of the result of their unbelief!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
