My Worth Is Not in What I Own

Feat. John Piper, Keith & Kristyn Getty, We Are Messengers

“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service; even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor.

“And yet I was shown mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

“It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

“And yet for this reason I found mercy, in order that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ, might demonstrate His perfect patience, as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever.  Amen.  I Timothy 1:12-17

Jesus Christ came into the world to die to save … sinners!

He came to die and save you and me!

Yet, we are unworthy of the cross!

But it is because of the cross we are worthy!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays with and for you each day)

Love Moved First by Casting Crowns

[Jesus teaching] “‘ … so it is necessary that  the Son of man be lifted up on the cross, in order that everyone who believes in Him – who cleaves to Him, trusts Him and relies on Him – may not perish, but have eternal life and actually, live forever!

“’For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He even gave up His only-begotten, unique Son, so that whoever believes in, trusts, clings to, relies on Him shall not perish – come to destruction, be lost – but have eternal, everlasting life.

“’For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge, to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on the world; but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

“’He who believes on Him, who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him is not judged (he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgement; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation; he incurs no damnation_.

“’But he who does not believe (not cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already; (he has already been convicted; has already received his sentence) because he has not believed on the trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God -- He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ’s name.’”  John 3:14b-18hn – The Amplified Bible[1]

During this last week, Jesus seemed to squeeze in so many stories and teachings, yet every moment He knew what was coming.  I wonder if He began to withdraw from those around Him – a little more each day as He knew how He alone would be facing something only the Father could understand.

And He accepted and prepared to suffer all this just for you and me.  Isn’t that breathtaking!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays with and for you each day)

Cleansing the Temple Complex - Palm Sunday (dazzafact)

“And when they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.  And if anyone says something you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them’ and immediately he will send them.’

“Now this took place that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, saying, ‘Say to the daughter of Zion, behold your King is coming to you, gentle and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’ (Zechariah 9:9)  And the disciples went and did just as Jesus had directed them, and brought the donkey and the colt and laid on them their garments, on which He sat.

“And most of the multitude spread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and spreading them in the road.  And the multitudes going before Him, and those who followed after were crying out, saying, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!’” Matthew 21:1-9

It’s called Palm Sunday.  These nine verses are bristling with special meaning, starting with Jesus requisitioning that donkey.  It was a right that only belonged to royalty and was claimed by Rabbis.  The donkey had never been ridden, yet it was a willing and gentle creature who accepted His sovereignty.

The term ‘Hosanna’ was originally translated as a cry for help – a cry out to save.  And Psalm 118:26 recognises this Jesus as from the family of David, the rightful heir to the throne – by lineage and by God’s lineage!

Most wonderful of all, if you search all four Gospels (and this is recorded in all of them), you will see how careful Jesus was with protecting His true identity.  He regularly healed and performed many miracles, yet He always cautioned those He ministered to not to tell anyone, especially if they suspected He was the Messiah.

But not on this His ‘triumphal’ entry -- when, for the only time, surrounded by the multitude gathered for the Passover, He allowed the people to praise Him and shout their recognition of Him as the promised Messiah – the ‘lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world’ (John 1:29).

The disciples were anticipating Jesus would free Jerusalem from the Romans and that each of them would rule beside Jesus, the great king.  What a surprise they were to experience!  No wonder they were confused!

WeakEnd Assignment – Sometimes, You Wonder Why

or search YouTube for Isaiah 53 (feat. Shai Sol) [Official Video]

“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was pierced through for our transgressions.

“He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our wellbeing fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.  All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us ALL to fall on Him.”  Isaiah 53:4-6

In Refections on the Psalms, C. S. Lewis wrote:  “The Eternal may meet us in what is, by our present measurements, a day, or (more likely) a minute or a second; but we have touched what is not in any way commensurate with lengths of time, whether long or short.

“Hence our hope finally to emerge, if not altogether from time (that might not suit our humanity) at any rate from the tyranny, the unilinear poverty, of time, to ride it, not to be ridden by it, and so to cure that always aching wound which mere succession and mutability inflict on us, almost equally when we are happy and when we are unhappy.

“For we are so little reconciled to time that we are even astonished at it.  ‘How he’s grown!’ we exclaim.  “How time flies!’ as though the universal form of our experience were again and again a novelty.

“It is as strange as if a fish were repeatedly surprised at the wetness of water.  And that would be strange indeed; unless of course, the fish were destined to become, one day, a land animal.”

Assignment:

1.    Find an hour and place where you will not be interrupted.  Have your Bible, notebook, writing implement and a refreshment and perhaps some tissues.

2.    Pray the Lord will give you insight into this assignment.

3.    Take time to listen to the video – yes, with your eyes closed, focus on the words.

4.    Consider the love of a Father who would sacrifice His only Son to pay for the sins you have committed against Him.

5.    Write your thoughts and thank your Father for reminding you.cially His, Darlene (who still prays with and for you each day)

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.

·      Sergio – has a job but at subsistence wages.  He is thankful for anything as Mexico is in dire economic condition.  The work is wearing him out physically.  His diabetes is presently under control and he has found a place to live.

·      Tracey’s Mom – home now.  Her ability to think clearly and care for herself is weakening.  She now has good home health care.  Pray her loved ones will make time to help her through this and support Tracey’s efforts.

·      Len Carbone – (59 years old).  Pray he wakes to the message of the Cross and the compassionate love of Jesus.  Had brain tumour surgery in 2002 and on disability since.  His loneliness has overwhelmed him as he fights with his disability and those around him.  Pray for a godly and patient friend to show him God’s love.

·      Liriel – chronically ill (kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis) and often in pain.  Pray for her comfort and for her loving and supportive husband that they share the Lord’s joy each day.

·      Uncle Dwight – (95 – Doris only brother) is growing frail.  Pray for comfort and compassion.  He is an ordained pastor and longs to go home and be with his Lord.

·      Aunt Donna – has dementia.  Please pray for her daughters so they know how best to care for her.

·      Penne –widowed after 43 years, the last ten of which she was her husband’s full-time caregiver.  She suffers mental problems from a childhood experience and has reached out to Patti (who asks for wisdom and patience).  Penne has ‘disowned’ all her family, and although a believer, does not attend fellowship for support.  Please pray for her peace of mind and God’s guidance.
