The Life of Jesus | John 12:12-36 by Jesus.net

“’And many of the people spread their coats on the road as an act of tribute and homage before a new king, and others scattered layers of leafy branches which they had cut from the fields, honouring Him as Messiah.

“Those who went in front and those who were following Him were shouting in joy and praise: ‘Hosanna, save, I pray!  Blessed, praised, glorified is He who comes in the name of the Lord!  Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!  Hosanna in the highest heaven!’

“Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple enclosure; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve disciples, because it was already late in the day.” Mark 11:8-11

Find one hour and a place where you will not be interrupted.  Have your Bible, notebook, writing implement and a refreshment.  Settle in and pray.  Ask the Lord to give you a new insight about Jesus’ humility, knowing He was and is God’s very, only, begotten Son.

This WeakEnd Assignment is a review of previous chapters.  The search is to review the healings Jesus performed in the first ten chapters.

1.    Date the page in your notebook for today.

2.    Draw lines down your page like this and head the columns with these labels:

3.    Some chapters may have none – just put ‘none’ in the second column.

4.    Some chapters may have more than one.  List each one and answer the question in the third column for each one.

5.    What overall conclusion or observation can you make about how Jesus dealt with the person He healed or performed a miracle for?  Was there a general theme?

6.    What was different in chapter 11 about how Jesus reacted to the people on this day when He enters Jerusalem?

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Hymn Story with Lyrics -

Story Behind the Hymn - Anna Warner

By Worship 101 - Hymn Stories

“He called a little child and set him before them, and said, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent – that is, change your inner self – your old way of thinking, live changed lives – and become like children – trusting, humble and forgiving – you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

“Whoever receives and welcomes one child like this in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin – by leading him away from My teaching, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone – as large as one turned by a donkey – hung around his neck and be drowned in the depth of the sea. –

“’See that you do not despise or think less of one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven are in the presence of and continually look upon the face of My Father who is in heaven.’”  Matthew 18:3-6, 10

But He said, ‘Leave the children alone, and do not forbid them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” Matthew 19:14

“Babies have a sinful nature when they are born, but they are not accountable for sin until they are old enough to understand.  Once they reach the age of accountability, they are sinners by nature and sinners by practice, and are responsible for their actions. – God does not condemn anyone to hell who is not mentally capable of understanding spiritual things.[1]

The Very Fat and Heavy Backpack

He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses and turns away from his sins will find compassion and mercy.” Proverbs 28:13

“For the death that He died, He died to sin, ending its power and paying the sinner’s debt once and for all; and the life that He lives, He lives to glorify God in unbroken fellowship with Him.  Even so, consider yourselves to be dead to sin, and your relationship to it broken, but alive to God in unbroken fellowship with Him in Christ Jesus.  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions.”  Romans 6:11-13

“My little children, believers, dear ones, I am writing you these things so that you will not sin and violate God’s law.  And if anyne sins, we have an Advocate, who will intercede for us with the Father:  Jesus Christ the righteous, the upright, the just One, who conforms to the Father’s will in every way – purpose, thought, and action.

“And He, that same Jesus, is the propitiation for our sins – the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature – our worldliness, our lifestyle; and not for ours alone, but also for the sins of all believers throughout the whole world.” I John 2:1-2

“There is no use saying we want to be saved if we want to keep our sin.  However, that does not mean that we will never fall into sin again.  We are still human beings! – No, we are not perfect, but we want to be.  That is the difference [and a good proof] between a saved sinner and a long sinner.  One loves sin, and the other hates sin.[1]

Take time to really consider the meaning of Kay Friederichsen’s wonderful illustration.  When we surrender to Jesus and admit the heavy weight of our sins, Jesus reaches out and breaks the straps of that ‘backpack’ we carry around with us.

If He can take it from us, it is up to us to keep trusting Him to carry it and stop trying to take it back from Him.  And when we begin to notice the straps of the backpack are hurting our shoulders once more, we just need to use the ‘spiritual soap’ He has provided for us in I John 1:9 to give it back to the one who paid to carry it for us!

“For there is only one God, and only one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom – a substitutionary sacrifice to atone for all, the testimony given at the right and proper time.” I Timothy 2:5

“The Son is the radiance and only expression of the glory of our awesome God, reflecting God’s Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine, and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His Father’s essence, and upholding things – the entire physical and spiritual universe – by His powerful word – carrying the universe along to its predetermined goal.

“When He Himself and no other had by offering Himself on the cross as a sacrifice for sin – accomplished purification from sins and established our freedom from guilt, He sat down – revealing His completed work – at the right hand of the Majesty on high, revealing His Divine authority, having become as much superior to angels, since He has inherited a more excellent and glorious name that they – that is, Son – the name above all names.” Hebrews 1:3; 9:22

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation.” Acts 4:12

“Penance does not take away sin; the fire of purgatory will not take away sin.  The Bible does not teach a purgatory after death.  The one [and ONLY] place where sins are purged away is on the cross of Calvary.

“There is no need for anyone or anything else to remove sin.  There is only one Mediator between God and man and that is the man, Christ Jesus.  One who claims to have the power to represent God in forgiving sins should also have the power to cast our demons and raise the dead![1]

Why did God punish Jesus for our sins?

John Piper – Desiring God

“All of us like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, each one, to his own way; but the Lord has caused the wickedness of us all of our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing to fall on Him, instead of us.” Isaiah 53:6

“He [God] made Christ who knew no sin to judicially be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God – that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness.” II Corinthians 5:21

“He [Jesus] personally carried our sins in His body on the cross, willingly offering Himself on it, as on an altar of sacrifice, so that we might die to sin – becoming immune from the penalty and power of sin – and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you, who believe, have been healed.” I Peter 2:24 Verses from The Amplified Bible

“Even though the death of Christ is sufficient for the whole world, it is efficient [and effective] only for those who receive Him as their personal Saviour from sin.  When we let Christ take our sins away, we stand before God as sinless.  Christ is our Substitute.[1]

Many are window shopping for solutions (today scrolling through sites) to their personal problems, pains, difficulties, losses and fears.  They sometimes buy Bibles, go to this church, watch heaps of YouTube videos about God.  They pray now and again.

Yet, they do not open their hearts to accept the mystery that the sacrifice Jesus chose to make was sufficient and complete payment for all their sins.  Sadly, until they do, they remain lost for eternity, holding onto their sin debt, without hope.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

“Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do everything I accordance with the entire law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may prosper and be successful wherever you go.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read and meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.” Joshua 1:7-8

Gather your Bible, notebook, writing implement, a refreshment and a way to watch the above video.

Once settled, pray the Lord will give you ample time to enjoy the message of the video and that you will discover new insights through this experience.  Open your Bible to the book of Mark, in case you wish to follow along.  Then, press play and listen.

God’s Sin Dilemma!

or search YouTube for What does it mean that Jesus fulfilled the law,

but did not abolish it? | GotQuestions.org (6 mins)

“And just as it is appointed and destined for all men to die once and after this comes certain judgment, so Christ, having been offered once and once for all to bear as a burden the sins of many, will appear a second time, when He returns to earth, not to deal with sin, but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly and confidently waiting for Him.

“For since the Law has only a shadow – just a pale representation – of the good things to come, not the very image of those things – it can never, by offering the same sacrifices continually year after year make perfect those who approach its altars.

“Every priest stands at his altar of service ministering daily, offering the same sacrifices over and over, which are never able to strip away sins, that envelop and cover us; whereas Christ, having offered the one sacrifice – the all-sufficient sacrifice of Himself – for sins for all time, sat down – signifying the completion of atonement for sin – at the right hand of God (the position of honour) waiting from that time onward until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet.” Hebrews 9:27-28 10:11-13

“The sacrifices in the Old Testament were an illustration of Christ, the Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world.  Those sacrifices could never take away sin, but they pointed by faith to the Saviour that should come.[1]

God established the penalty for sin as death to the sinner.  Yet, His love yearns to save sinners.  But how?  God cannot lie and He can’t go against His Word!  In the Old Testament, God’s people killed innocent animals as an illustration of Christ to come.  But those sacrifices could never take away the sin, they could only point to the Solution.

God needed to find one sacrifice FOR all guilty sinners, who would satisfy the sentence of death for sin.  But there was, what seemed to be an insurmountable catch.  They MUST have no sin!

Wasn’t it just like our wonderful God that He solved this dilemma for us!  How?  He chose to send His only, beloved Son to earth, to live a sinless life, to be crucified and die, and then rise from death victorious.  And by His resurrection, He has the power and right to save each of us who trust in His life and promises!

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.

Pray for the World
