The Lost and Last Step

"If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us." I John 8-10

"Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners will be converted to Thee.

"Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; then my tongue will joyfully sing of Thy righteousness.  O Lord open my lips, that my mouth may declare Thy praise.

"For Thou does not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering.  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God Thou wilt not despise." Psalm 51:12-17

Psalm 51 is David's prayer confessing his great sin of adultery and murder.  It gives us a pattern for when we need to bring something to the feet of the Lord.

David prayed and freely admitted his sin, he expressed real sorrow and then he asks his Heavenly Father to forgive him.

What he does next is the lost and last step, he believed God listened and heard him; and knows that He will restore him.  Then he returns to fellowship cleansed by the Father's forgiveness and grace.

It is easier to confess than it is to believe in forgiveness and grace.

I leave for Dubai very early tomorrow and hope to write one more devotion before I get on the plane, but if not, just use this one for a couple of days or read back over previous entries.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Provision NOT Prosperity

"I am unworthy of all the lovingkindness and of all the faithfulness which Thou hast shown to Thy Servant, for with my staff only I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two companies." Genesis 32:10

"...and let us arise and go to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and has been with me wherever I have gone." Genesis 35:3

"Now Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh that Thou wouldst bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that Thy hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldst keep me from harm that it may not pain me!'  And God granted him what he requested." I Chronicles 4:10

As I will be travelling very early on Friday and unsure of when I will be on line again (even to post on the blog), this is a bit of a time of transition as we just completed the wonderful book by Max Lucado, A Love Worth Giving, and once I am back we will begin Revelation.

So I thought I would just share some of my favourite Scriptures with you.  Of the three above, some of you would recognise "Jabez Prayer", another wonderful book about God's inexhaustible giving to us.  Even when we are not faithful to Him, His faithfulness never fails -- but it is not about prosperity or greed, it is about grace alone.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Loving Better

"If I speak with the eloquence of men and of angels, but have no love, I become no more than blaring brass or crashing cymbal.  If I have the gift of foretelling the future and hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but the very secrets of God,

"and if I also have that absolute faith which can move mountains, but have no love, I amount to nothing at all.  If I dispose of all that I possess, yes, even if I give my own body to be burned, but have no love, I achieve precisely nothing.

"This love of which I speak is slow to lose patience -- it looks for a way of being constructive.  It is not possessive; it is neither anxious to impress nor does it cherish inflated ideas of its own importance.

"Love has good manners and does not pursue selfish advantage.  It is not touchy.  It does not keep account of evil or gloat over the wickedness of other people.  On the contrary, it shares the joy of those who live by the truth." I Corinthians 13:1-8 JB Philips The New Testament in Modern English

"Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything.  Love never fails.
"Will we ever love like that?  Will we ever love perfectly?  No.  This side of heaven only God will.  But we will love better than we have."*

Thanks to this very popular passage, people around the world have a litmus test for the best of love...the love we all long for.  We can learn from it and it can remind us how to love better!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

How to Remember?

"If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.  And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

"And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.  Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag, and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;" I Corinthians 1-6

"When kindness comes grudgingly, we'll remember His kindness to us and ask Him to make us more kind.  When patience is scarce, we'll thank Him for His and ask Him to make us more patient.

"When it's hard to forgive, we won't list all the times we've been given grief.  Rather, we'll list all the times we've been given grace and pray to become more forgiving.

"We will receive first so we can give later.  We will drink deeply from heaven's endless love.  And when we do, we will discover a love worth giving."*

If we can remember our sins and our shortcomings (and we all can do that readily) we can remember also that once we placed our lives into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ, His forgiveness was ultimate and complete and unconditional.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
