Monkey See - Monkey Do

"And the Lord appeared to him [Isaac] and said, 'Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I shall tell you.  Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.

"'And I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands, and by your descendants, all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.'

"So Isaac lived in Gerar.  When the men of the place asked about his wife, he said, 'She is my sister,' for he was afraid to say, 'my wife,' thinking 'the men of the place might kill me on account of Rebekah, for she is beautiful.'" Genesis 26:2-7

Isaac seemed to have all the promise of a good future that anyone would wish for and yet, he starts his journey as his father did, with lying to protect himself and his possessions.

It is easy to tell people how to be righteous.  It is another to show them without a word, by your actions and reactions.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

I Want It ALL - I Want It NOW!

"And the Lord said to her, 'Two nations are in your womb; and two peoples shall be separated from your body; and one people shall be stronger than the other; and the older shall serve the younger.  And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

"Now Isaac loved Esau, because he had a taste for game; but Rebekah loved Jacob. And when Jacob had cooked stew Esau came in from the field and he was famished; and Esau said to Jacob, 'Please let me have a swallow of that red stuff there, for I am famished.'  Therefore his name was called Edom.

"But Jacob said, 'First sell me your birthright.'  And Esau said, 'Behold, I am about to die,; so of what use then is the birthright to me?'  And Jacob said, 'First swear to me; so he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.  Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way.  Thus Esau despised his birthright." Genesis 2523-24, 28-34

Greed is not good, and impatience may be worse, combined they signal the downfall of another character in God's divine plan.  The parents, however, set the example by establishing a rivalry that was doomed from the start.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Abraham's Treasures

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNEFK_Ve5rU
Or search YouTube for "Where Is Your Treasure?"

"Now it came about after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, 'Abraham!"  And he said, 'Here I am'  "And He said, 'Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.'

"...And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife.  So the two of them walked on together.

"And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, 'My father!'  And he said, 'Here I am, my son.'  And he said, 'Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?'  And Abraham said, 'God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.'  So the two of them walked on together.'" Genesis 22:1-2, 6-8

Abraham started with little.  God chose him and made a covenant with him to raise up a nation through him that would outnumber the grains of sands of the ocean.  He blessed him even though Abraham regularly fell into his own ways and lost trust in God over and over again.

Now, Abraham is older.  He knows his God better and trusts God a bit more.  Quietly, he obeys, although we can all imagine a hundred good arguments he could have made to God.

Lovingly God watches.  (it is important to note that God only asked Abraham to "offer" not to slay his son.)  Abraham obeys.  Can you feel his heart beating hard inside his chest, knowing that it is his treasure he must offer freely.  How special his answer to Isaac, 'God will provide for Himself the lamb," -- and so He did.

"I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship."  Romans 12:1

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
