Condemnation

“But the Lord said to him [Ananias], ‘Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; for I will show him how much he must suffer for My name’s sake.’

“And Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’

“And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and he arose and was baptised, and he took food and was strengthened.  Now for several days he was with the disciples who were at Damascus, and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, ‘He is the Son of God.’” Acts 9:15-20

“There is a big difference between the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and the condemnation of the devil.  Condemnation throws our guilt on us like a wet blanket that smothers us and leaves us with no means of breaking free. – When our consciousness of sin leaves us feeling persistently hopeless and condemned, with no way out and no prospect other than having to live with it, it is Satanic in origin.”*

Even the “worst sinner” understood repentance and forgiveness enough to know that since God had a plan for his life, he needed to get started and not feel guilty for a past he could not change – only learn from.  The Father takes our guilt from us and carries it for us...as long as we let Him.  But it’s our choice.

Who's Talking To You?

“’But I tell you the truth; it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you.  And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin; because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you no longer behold Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.’” John 16:8

“And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night.” Revelation 12:10

“There are two people who are concerned to talk to you about your sin.  One is the Holy Spirit, the other is the devil.  With regard to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, ‘When He come, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin.’  That is, without apology the Holy Spirit’s work the bringing of conviction of sin.  But the devil holds another role.  He is described as being ‘The accuser of our brothers...’, whose task is not to convict but to condemn.”*

Satan (and his minions) loves to fight with God and try to prove that his way is best.  He spends his time roaming around the earth looking to do the most damage to the Father.  This damage involves taking actions or taking no action...both are designed to demonstrate our lack of commitment and faith in the Father’s love and grace and plan -- so others will not believe!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Unforgiveable Sin?

“And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, ‘How can Satan cast out Satan?  And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.  And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.  And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!

“’But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.  Truly I sat to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin’” Mark 3:23-29

“Behind the calm exterior of many Christians is the problem of unresolved guilt.  Some are plagued by the fear they have committed the ‘unforgiveable sin’, and despite being Christians, they await the judgment day only with fear.”*

The only other mention of the “unforgiveable” sin is in Luke 12:10.  Christians sometimes wonder if they have committed the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit.  This is not a sin about which Christians need worry; it is a heart-attitude of unbelief and unrepentance.  Deliberate, ongoing rejection of the work of the Holy Spirit is blasphemy because it is rejecting God Himself.

Suspicious Forgiveness

“And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.  And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.  If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth’ but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”  I John 1:4-10

“In the several years that I have been travelling, preaching and counselling I have been surprised at the number of Christians there are, some of many years standing, who have a suspicion that their forgiveness is not as all-embracing as they would like to believe, and have been constantly attacked by their own sense of guilt, sometimes confessing the same sins again and again, but lacking the assurance of forgiveness.”*

I love God’s Word for so many reasons.  One is that if we read them hundreds of times over, they are always fresh for the moment we need them.  Read that passage over again and see if YOU can see the special message it holds.

1st Consequence of Repentance

“’Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ – this Jesus whom you crucified.’  Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brethren, what shall we do?’  And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let each of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.’” Acts 2:36-40

It is this forgiveness that is the first consequence of repentance. -- ’Forgiveness’ in these terms means that our guilt is erased.  We are now regarded as ‘not guilty’ of the sins of the past, and they will NEVER be recalled against us or used as evidence to condemn us.  That is a staggering claim, easy to accept as biblically and doctrinally correct, but hard to believe as being true for ourselves.”*

There is an idea that’s crept into some Christian thinking that you must pay in lifetime guilt for your past.  Not true!  Christ paid the accurate, full and complete price for our sins – past, present and future.  If we could settle our sin debt any other way –by work, money, good intentions, etc. -- then He didn’t have to die.  The first consequence of personal repentance is forgiveness...of ourselves and others.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Guilt Strategy, Part 2

“And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.  If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” I John 1:5-7

“The other way is to face up to guilt as a reality, accept responsibility for it and cope with it from a position of responsibility.  From a Christian point of view, having taken the second way, accepting responsibility for our guilt leads to us confessing it and receiving forgiveness.”*

Remember when you were a kid and you may have broken something, and your parents asked “who did it?” and you had to make a choice to confess or be found out (cause parents always seem to find out if you do not confess!).  Do you remember the first time you confessed (or a significant time)?  It was not to receive punishment that you confess, but to receive forgiveness and sometimes learn a lesson from that situation.  God loves us far more than a parent!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Guilt Strategy, Part 1

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?’  And he said, ‘I heard the sound of Thee in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.’

“And He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked?  Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’  And the man said, ‘The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.’  Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’  And the woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’” Genesis 3:8-13

“There are two main ways of coping with guilt.  One is to redefine it so as to reduce the sense of personal responsibility and personal failure -- looking for external factors as the cause of their clients’ feeling of guilt.  (upbringing, parents, grandparents, neighbours, the church, the country or the government) -  the victims can then vent their feelings by blaming and cursing these causes over which they had no responsibility, and having absolved themselves, they begin to feel better for it. -- However it doesn’t actually solve the problem, it just relocates it.”*

Just read that passage in Genesis again!  How easy it is to “pass the guilt along”, when we must take responsibility for our choices!

Power of Guilt

“How blesses is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered!  How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit!

“When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long.  For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.”  Psalm 32:3-4

“Speaking on BBC radio, the head of a mental institution in Scotland made an astonishing observation, ‘If my patients could be assured of forgiveness, half of them could go home tomorrow’, he claimed.  An enormous number of mntal breakdowns are a result of guilt that has never been dealt with.  He put the figure as high as fifty percent. – Guilt is ‘heavy’.  Guilt is tiring!  Guild makes us groan!  But how do we cope with it?”*

They say speed kills; this is true, and a greater killer is guilt.  It kills our heart attitude toward the Father and the life He has given us.  It kills our relationships.  It kills the joy of others around us.  It kills our joy for life.  It can even kill those who do not know how to relieve their guilt.  There is a way...

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Money Fruit

“But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.  And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.

“But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang.  But flee from these things, you man of God; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love perseverance and gentleness.” I Timothy 6:6-11

“And looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him, and said to him, ‘One thing you lack; go and sell all you possess; and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow  Me.’

“But at these words his face fell, and he went away grieved, for he was one who owned much property.  And Jesus looking around, said to His disciples, ‘How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!’” Mark 10:23

“Money is a very useful servant, but it is a terrible master.  The rich young ruler was turned away by the Lord Jesus Christ because he was not willing to part with his money, and Jesus added to his bewildered disciples who were amazed at the conversation they had just witnessed.  There is a wonderful contentment in knowing all you need for all God plans He will provide, and the repentant person learns to be content.”*

God doesn’t need your money...He gives you the opportunity to manage resources He provides through His mysterious ways.  So, a spirit of humility and thanksgiving for what you have right now -- knowing He knows this -- is the best approach with money.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Business Fruit

“And some tax-gatherers also came to be baptised, and they said to him, ‘Teacher, what shall we do?’  And he said to them, ‘Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.’”  Luke 3:12-13

“And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, ‘Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your home.’  And he hurried and came down and received Him gladly.  And when they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner,’ And Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, ‘Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.’  And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too is a son of Abraham.  For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.’”   Luke 19:5-10

“A Christian at work should be the most trustworthy person on earth. “*

Whether or not we notice it, people are always looking for someone, ANYONE who will demonstrate honour and integrity, truth and honesty.  At work, as at home, we have the opportunity to demonstrate the power of Christ changing our lives so His love is more attractive to those who do not know Him.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Social Fruit

“’But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.  And all the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left.

“’Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

“’For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’” Matthew 25:31-36

“The best indication of our true attitude towards God is found in our attitude towards people.  On Judgment Day the Bible makes no mention of people being asked about their ‘beliefs’, but it speaks entirely of people being asked about their behaviour, always their behaviour toward other people and particularly towards those less privileged then themselves.  We cannot escape that!

“Not that those good works have been the cause of salvation, but they are the EFFECT of salvation and the quality of our salvation is expressed in its effectiveness.”*

What would Jesus do if He met each person you will meet today to make a difference in their lives?  We can be like Johnny Appleseed and plant seeds everywhere we are or not and always be an example of the power of Christ in our own lives.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
