Guilt Strategy, Part 1

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?’  And he said, ‘I heard the sound of Thee in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.’

“And He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked?  Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’  And the man said, ‘The woman whom Thou gavest to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.’  Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’  And the woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’” Genesis 3:8-13

“There are two main ways of coping with guilt.  One is to redefine it so as to reduce the sense of personal responsibility and personal failure -- looking for external factors as the cause of their clients’ feeling of guilt.  (upbringing, parents, grandparents, neighbours, the church, the country or the government) -  the victims can then vent their feelings by blaming and cursing these causes over which they had no responsibility, and having absolved themselves, they begin to feel better for it. -- However it doesn’t actually solve the problem, it just relocates it.”*

Just read that passage in Genesis again!  How easy it is to “pass the guilt along”, when we must take responsibility for our choices!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
