As A Man Thinks

“When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you; and put a knife to your throat, if you are a man of great appetite.  Do not desire his delicacies, for it is deceptive food.

“Do not weary yourself to gain wealth.  Cease from your consideration of it.  When you set your eyes on it, it is gone, for wealth certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.

“Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, or desire his delicacies; for as he thinks within himself, so he is.  He says to you, ‘Eat and drink!’ but his heart is not with you.  You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten and waste your compliments.” Proverbs 23:1-8

There are a lot of Bible verses being quoted around that we would not even recognise unless we read God’s Word regularly enough to be familiar with it.

Doesn’t it do your heart well when you hear someone using a verse or phrase, such as a man thinks…well it certainly is misremembered isn’t it.  The beauty of God’s Word buried in our hearts is that it can help us share His Word with others…sometimes without them even realising!

“So shall My Word be which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning and would appreciate some prayer updates again, please.

Monkey See...

“A good name is to be more desired than great riches, favour is better than silver and gold.  The rich and the poor have a common bond, the Lord is the maker of them all.  The prudent sees the evil and hides himself, but the naïve go on, and are punished for it.

“The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honour and life.  Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who guards himself will be far from them.  Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:1-6

There used to be a show on TV in the 50s, hosted by Art Linkletter called, “Kids Say the Darnedest Things”.  Over the years the concept has been used in modern updates, but Art did it best.  On stage there would be four, chairs, tailored to the smaller guests.  Each was greeted by Art who had prepared some very clever questions.

One by one he would ask each to give their thoughts about a topic or answer a question.  It was a very revealing way to see the values of the parents.  Children do watch and listen to what their parents say and what they do.  For those of you who have children, it is so important to remember that even though children may seem cute and unaware, they are learning the life lessons that will last their lifetime from you!

“And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.  But Jesus called for them, saying, ‘Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” Luke 18:15-16

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning and would appreciate some prayer updates again, please.
