Create In Me & Have Thine Own Way (Silo Sessions) by

Sounds Like Reign

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.

“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted and return to You.” Psalm 51:10-13

1.    Find an hour and place where you will be alone.

2.    Take your Bible, this devotion, a notebook, writing implement and a refreshment.

3.    Pray for precious memories and clear thoughts as you consider and write in response to these thoughts:

C. S. Lewis brought up a wonderful ‘observation’ in an essay he wrote on prayer suggesting that God seems to treat new Christians with a special kind of tenderness, much as a parent dotes on a newborn.  He quotes an experienced Christian:

‘I have seen many striking answers to prayer and more than one that I thought miraculous.  But they usually come at the beginning before conversion, or soon after it.  As the Christian life proceeds, they tend to be rarer.  The refusals, too, are not only more frequent; they become more unmistakenly emphatic."

It is time to remember and consider the ‘rhythm’ of our walk with the Lord.  Do you remember the day you realised what it meant to cross that ‘line of belief in the sand’?  The joy of your salvation permeated every moment as your eyes were opened and oh so grateful.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

“Peter replied to Him, ‘Though they all fall away because of You and doubt and disown You, I will never fall away!’  Jesus said to him, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this night before a rooster crows, you will completely deny Me three times.’  Peter said to Jesus, ‘Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!’  And all the disciples said the same thing.” Matthew 26:33-35

[Jesus teaching] “’Simon, Simon Peter, listen!  Satan has demanded permission to sift all of you like grain; but I have prayed especially for you Peter, that your faith and confidence in Me may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again to Me, strengthen and support your brothers in the faith.’

“And Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death!’  Jesus said, ‘I say to you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will utterly deny three times that you know Me.’” Luke 22:31-38

“Simon Peter said to Him, Lord where are You going?’  Jesus answered, ‘Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but you will be able to follow later.’  Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, why cannot I follow You now?  I will lay down my life for You!  Jesus answered, ‘Will you really lay down your life for Me?  I assure you and most solemnly say to you, before a rooster crows you will deny and completely disown Me three times.”  John 13:36-38

We have a choice every day which ‘wolf’ (listen to the video to know the story of the two wolves) we feed.  Dear Lord Jesus, help us feed our hearts on You and Your Words as the world grows so sad.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

How to Express Love

Lincoln Brewster ~ While I Wait (Lyrics)

“Then God said, ‘Let Us, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over every living thing that creeps and crawls on the earth.’

“So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.  And God blessed them, granting them certain authority and said to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it, putting it under your power; and rule over/ dominate the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.’” Genesis 1:26-28 The Amplified Bible

Is our faith in God important to Him?  Even though the story of Job’s testing seemed unfair on the surface, it was worth it to God because it went to the core of the entire human ‘experiment’.

More than Job’s faith was at risk -- the motive behind all creation was also at stake.  Ever since God took the ‘risk’ of giving us the freedom to choose -- faith – true, unbribed, freely-offered faith – it has had a fundamental value to God we can never imagine.  No matter whatever else, the story of Job shows us that there is no better way for us to express love to God than by exercising faith in Him.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

by Pastor Landon

“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, set aside self-righteous pride, so that He may exalt you to a place of honour in His service at the appropriate time, casting all your cares, all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all on Him, for He cares about you with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully.

“Be sober, well balanced and self-disciplined, be alert and cautious at all times.  That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, fiercely hungry, seeking someone to devour.  But resist him, be firm in your faith against his attack – rooted, established, immovable, knowing that the same experience of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world.  You do not suffer alone.

“After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who imparts His blessing and favour, who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you, making you what you ought to be.  To Him be dominion, power, authority, sovereignty forever and ever.  Amen."
I Peter 5:6-11 (The Amplified Bible)

At church we are slogging through II Kings (we’ve made it up to chapter 16).  This Sunday during the lesson (starting around minute 29), Pat, one of our pastors really provided some critical thoughts that I must share:

“The looming crisis for all of us today is the lack of appreciation of how VAST and SERIOUS our sin life is in Christ’s eyes.  The paradox for the church is two-fold:

a.     Repentance and looking up to our Saviour -- to keep our eyes on Him.

b.    To resist the messages of the day around us!  The devil relentlessly whispers in our ears:

o   ‘Oh there’s heaps of time to ‘do/ get’ better, do the right thing, fix this or that so don’t bother….or

o   ‘Panic!  Give up!  Run into walls, it’s just too late!  Don’t waste your time trying. the effort.

We are NOT alone in the ongoing struggle.  Evil roams around to ‘compromise’ and ‘consume’ the believers of Christ.  Don’t let that be you.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Holier Than Thou

“But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.  Early in the morning He came back into the temple court and all the people were coming to Him.  He sat down and began teaching them.  Now the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery.

“They made her stand in the centre of the court, and they said to Him, ‘Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery.  Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman to death.  So what do You say to do with her, what is Your sentence?

“They said this to test Him, hoping that they would have grounds for accruing Him.  But Jesus stooped down and began writing on the ground with His finger.  However, when they persisted in questioning Him, He straightened up and said, He who is without any sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.’  Then He stooped down again and started writing on the ground.

“They listened to His reply, and they began to go out one by one, starting with the oldest one, until He was left alone, with the woman standing there before Him in the centre of the court.  Straightening up, Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, where are they?  Did no one condemn you?’  She answered, ‘No one, Lord!’  And Jesus said, ‘I do not condemn you either.  Go.  From now on sin no more.’” John 8:1-11

There was only ever ONE sinless One and He took ALL the sin of all the individuals who have ever lives onto Him, so that we would stop pointing fingers at each other and feeling superior to another because our sin, though hidden from all (but God) is ‘different’ than theirs.

We must stop comparing ourselves with one another.  The standard is SINLESS.  Not one of us can say we are sinless.  It is why we MUST fall to our knees in confession and recognition of His Lordship in our lives.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
