Trusting God

"My son (and daughter), do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life.  And peace they will add to you.

"Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.  So you will find favour and good repute in the sight of God and man.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heat and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:1-6

"Why is it easier to obey God than to trust Him?  Because obeying God makes sense to us.  In most cases His laws appear reasonable and wise, and even when we don't want to obey them, we usually concede that they are good for us.

"But the circumstances we often find ourselves in defy explanation.  When unexpected situations arise that appear unjust, irrational, or even dreadful, we feel confused and frustrated.  And before long we begin to doubt God's concern for us or His control over our lives."

If you have a copy of Trusting God, by Jerry Bridges, you might wish to follow along!  Have a good weekend.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

OK!

"Be silent before me so that I may speak; then let come on me what may.  Why should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hands?  Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.  Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him." Job 13:13-15

"O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me, Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up.  Thou doest understand my thought from afar.  Thou dost scrutinise my path and my lying down, and rt intimately acquainted with all my ways."  Psalm 139:1-3

In 1989, I met two of the most significant teachers in my walk with the Lord, Buddy and Susan Smith and in August that year, they gave me a book.  Inside they wrote this:

"Take this book, and let the Lord use it to strengthen your heart.  I have developed a greater trust in the Lord from it and I believe you will as well."  And this is the book for the new series.  One I had not even considered before...but you will find great strength from it.

Now What?

"And he did right in the sight of the Lord and walked in the ways of his father David and did not turn aside to the right or to the left." II Chronicles 34:2

"'Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.  Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.

"'This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.  Have I not commanded you?   Be strong and courageous!  Do not tremble or be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.'" Joshua 1:6-9

OK the series on Micah ended and now I would like your thoughts and prayers for where we go next.  We can march through a book of the Bible (let me know which one you would like or here are three choices of a book study:

1. God's Word Made Plain - a book by Mrs. Paul Friederichsen, by Moody Press.  A great study of "a bird's-eye view of biblical doctrines:  What is:  God like, the Holy Spirit, sin, new birth, faith and works, souls after death, eternal life, basics of coming events", etc.

2. In the Grip of Grace by Max Lucado.  This wonderful book makes the puzzling concept of grace make a bit more sense.  "Can anything separate us from the love Christ has for us?  Can troubles or problems or sufferings or hunger or nakedness or danger or violent death?"  Grace is unlike any other concept and one of the main points that separates being Christian from other religions.

3. The God Who Won't Let Go - by Dean Merrill.  God's tenacity for His children through it all has changed lives around the world.  "If you could use a fresh start, this book offers biblical insights that can help you realign yourself with God's redemptive will for your life...it reveals a Savior who will meet you in the midst of your circumstances...and flood your life with unexpected grace."

Gone!

"He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot.  Yes, Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.  Thou wilt give truth to Jacob and unchanging love to Abraham.  Which Thou didst swear to our forefathers from the days of old."  Micah 7:19-20

It is difficult to imagine that God will trample our sins under His feet and cast them into the depths of the sea or cast them to the endless distance of east to west, where they purposefully are never remembered again.  Would that we could do the same.

It is true that Satan is the chief liar and that he is the father of lies...yet one thing Satan never lies about is our failures and our sins.  He reminds us of these...because once we get our eyes off our loving Father and onto our sinful failures, Satan knows he wins.

Look up from whence your help comes...it comes from the Lord!!

"For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

"Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.  For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust." Psalm 103:11-14

Soap and Water

"Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession?  He does not retain His anger forever because He delights in unchanging love." Micah 7:18

"If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." I John 1:8-10

"And so He came to Simon Peter.  He said to Him, 'Lord, do You wash my feet?'  Jesus answered and said to him, 'What I do you do not realise now, but you shall understand hereafter.'

"Peter said to Him, 'Never shall You wash my feet!  Jesus Answered him, 'If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.'  Simon Peter said to Him, 'Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.'

"Jesus said to him, 'He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean' and you are clean,'" John 13:6-10a

Who IS like our loving Heavenly Father!  He who loves us, directs and watches our lives from conception to grave; who offers salvation to any who will call upon His name; and loves and directs their paths from that moment of immersion in His cleansing sanctification.  It is our part to keep using the "soap of purity" (I John 1:9) on a daily basis to keep our hands clean of the sin we fall into daily.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

That Dread Moment

"Nations will see and be ashamed of all their might.  They will put their hand on their mouth, their ears will be deaf.  They will lick the dust like a serpent, like reptiles of the earth.

"They will come trembling out of their fortresses.  To the Lord our God they will come in dread, and they will be afraid before Thee." Micah 7:14-16

We all have an arrogance of innocence that comes from our inability to even remotely imagine the greatness and the power and the limitlessness love and grace of our Heavenly Father.  On the rare occasions when we do, there are no words to say to Him, other than to offer Him our heart in grateful thanks.

"Then Job answered the Lord and said, 'Behold I am insignificant; what can I reply to Thee?  I lay my hand on my mouth.'

"'I have heard of Thess by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees Thee; therefore I retract and I repent in dust and ashes.'" Job 40:3-4, 42:5-6

Show you miracles

"'Shepherd Thy people with Thy sceptre, the flock of Thy possession which dwells by itself in the woodland, in the midst of a fruitful field.  Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead as in the days of old.  As in the days when you come out from the land of Egypt, I will show you miracles.'" Micah 7:14-15

If we can be patient and obedient through trials, God forgives us and shows His goodness again.  Trials and difficulties do not mean rejection.  The nation of Judah was being punished here in order to bring her people to God, not to send them away from Him.

When you face trials because of your sin, do not be angry with God or be afraid that He has rejected you.  Instead turn away from your sin and turn back to your loving Heavenly Father.

"Why should any living mortal, or any man, offer complaint in view of his sins?  Let us examine and probe our ways, and let us return to the Lord.  We lift up our heart and hands toward God in heaven." Lamentations 3:39-41

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
