"'The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who understand and act wisely, who truly seek after God, longing for His wisdom and guidance. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one." Psalm 14:2-3

Another weekend and another WeakEnd Assignment.  Today, something to provoke your thinking and a break from the study of the book of Mark.  This four-minute video is made by my pastor and points out some important thoughts for all of us today, especially when you hope to share your faith with another.

The WeakEnd Assignment is to:

1.    Find an hour and quiet spot where you will not be interrupted.

2.    Bring your Bible, notebook, something to write with and a refreshment.

3.    Quiet your heart and pray and ask the Lord to open your eyes to new discoveries about His love for you and all His children.

4.    Rewatch the video above and take notes of what you find important.

5.    Consider the power of the question:  ‘Who is searching for you and why does that matter?’

6.    Look up these Scripture verses and write them in your notebook.

·      John 14:6

·      Romans 3:11

7.    And if you can take time, read and pray through Psalm 143.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Eric Ludy - He is (The Names of God)

(Return of Majesty Trilogy)

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and the expanse of heaven is declaring the work of His hands.  Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night reveals knowledge.” Psalm 19:1-3

[Jesus teaching] “’God is spirit, the Source of life, yet invisible to mankind, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.’” John 4:24

“ … because that which is known about God is evident within them, in their inner consciousness, for God made it evident to them.  For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship – all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made, so that they who fail to believe and trust in Him are without excuse and without defense.” Romans 1:19-20 (The Amplified Bible)

“A spirit is a person; a person is a spirit.  God is not merely influence or mind or subconsciousness – He is a living Person having knowledge, feeling, will, righteousness, love and all the qualifications that distinguish persons from the animal world.

“There are different kinds of spirits or persons – God-persons; angel-persons which include good and bad angels, Satan and demons; human-persons.  All are immortal and will live throughout eternity.[1]

One thing you learn as you begin to share your experience of God’s love is that many just don’t believe He exists and if He does, they have little understanding of His magnificence and sovereignty.  That is why knowing, sharing and helping others dive into God’s Word for themselves is critically important.  It is there that they can ‘recognise’ Him!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Living Word - (Proof 13)

"Salvation Belongs to the LORD"

by Christian Worship & Scripture Songs (Esther Mui)

[God speaking] “’For as the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth, making it bear and sprout, and providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

"'so will My word be which goes out of My mouth; it will not return to Me void, useless or without result, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.’” Isaiah 55:10-11

“But they did not all pay attention to the good news of salvation; for Isaiah, ‘Lord, who has believed our report?’  So faith comes from hearing what is told, and what is heard comes by the preaching of the message concerning Christ.” Romans 10:16-17

“The Bible is a living Book, always up-to-date, just as practical today as it was 1900 years ago.  It satisfies the hungry heart, it guides the confused; it comforts the sorrowing; it enlightens those spiritually blind.  The Word of God saves a soul![1]

There are many approaches to sharing your faith with someone who does not yet know the Lord Jesus as Saviour.  The best one is to read Scripture with them and/ or encourage them to read it for themselves.

Most people who know about the Bible get their understanding of it from another person or from a pastor in church.  However, there is nothing as powerful as encouraging someone to read the Bible for themselves.  The journey of personal discovery, changes lives!

From Gary Downey (sung by Judy Collins)

“So from now on we regard no one from a human point of view according to worldly standards and values.  Though we have known Christ from a human point of view, now we no longer know Him in this way.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Saviour, he is a new creature reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit; the old things the previous moral and spiritual condition have passed away.

“Behold, new things have come because spiritual awakening brings a new life.  But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ making us acceptable to Him and gave us the ministry of reconciliation so that by our example we might bring others to Him,

“ … that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them but cancelling them.  And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation that is, restoration to favour with God.” II Corinthians 5:16-19

“No other book offers a motivating power over sin.  There are no end of writings outlining how to be good; no end of platitudes and rules for life, but none can offer any remedy beyond self-improvement for fallen man.  But the Word of God offers the Holy Spirit to indwell and enable the believer.  The Bible makes living and dying easier![1]

“According to current market research, the self-improvement market was worth $9.9 billion in 2016 and is estimated to grow to $13.2 billion by 2022 with 5.6% average yearly gains.[2]

And yet as much as we try to change ourselves, it soon becomes apparent that we have habits that haunt us no matter what.  Psalm 139 tells us, each of us is unique, and that God established -- from before our conception -- a personal plan to bring us to the truth of the Cross.

Once we accept the gracious and wonderful gift that Jesus’ death provides, God sets our feet on a personal plan to change our hearts and grow us more into the image of His beloved Son.  Isn’t that amazing!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Persecutor To Persecuted by AFFIRM Films

“Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord and relentless in his search for believers, went to the high priest, and he asked for letters of authority from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any men or women there belonging to the Way – the believers and followers of Jesus the Messiah, so he could arrest them and bring them bound with chains to Jerusalem.

“As he travelled he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him displaying the glory and majesty of Christ; and he fell to the ground and heard a voice from heaven saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting and oppressing Me?’

“And Saul said, ‘Who are You Lord?’  And He answered, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.’” Acts 9:1-6

“Only God’s Word can change a down-and-outer into a saint.  Philanthropic organisations may try to help fallen man up the ladder of respectability, but none can change his character.  They may change his habits, but not his heart.[1]

Some of us have lived a pretty-alright kind of life.  We haven’t killed anyone or robbed a shop, lied in a court of law, etc.  Yet, once we realise that living a sinless life means not even thinking about sinning, no ‘borrowing’ of pencils, sassing our parents or not doing the wrong thing for the right reason, etc.), it humbles us.

One day we realise we are helpless against our sinful nature.  We need a Saviour.  And Jesus is the only one who can make us brand new, change our heart, love us though we are often unlovable and guarantee our future by ‘flipping us in another direction to face Him’.

Introduction and Background of Mark (1 of 9)

Mike Mazzalongo | BibleTalk.tv

“What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of earthborn man that You care for him?  Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You have crowned him with glory and honour.

“You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas.  O Lord, our Lord, how majestic and glorious and excellent is Your name in all the earth.” Psalm 8:4-9 The Amplified Bible

Scripture is always sufficient in itself.  Often it is also beneficial to know a bit about the books of the Bible you are reading, such as who wrote it, the location, the peoples/ characters or lands being featured, the year the book was written, the time in history in relation to other Bible events, the culture, what is being stressed by the writer, a bit about the writer, etc.  All these can help as you read.

This WeakEnd Assignment is designed to provide you with foundational information about Mark (and a bit more about the history of the Bible).

·      Set aside an hour and find a place where you will not be interrupted.

·      Have your Bible, notebook, writing implement, a refreshment and a way to watch the above video above with you.

·      Before you begin the video, pray the Lord will help you as you watch so you find helpful information to support you and give you more insight to the book of Mark.

Then watch the above 33-minute video.  Take notes along the way of information you find valuable to your study of Mark.  This foundational information will be beneficial as we continue to work through the rest of Mark.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

·      Peter Frith – The sole Christian chaplain at an Anglicare special hospital.  The work is lonely and challenging and the lockdown from Covid has deemed chaplaincy a non-essential service, so this has meant, Peter is relying on the Lord for creative ways he can encourage others while he waits for things to return to ‘normal’.  Continue to pray for his encouragement, hope and that our loving heavenly Father sends another Christian to work alongside Peter.

·      St Marks Anglican Church – Pray God opens the hearts and minds of those who visit and for those who worship there regularly and during this time on-line, that their hunger for God’s Word grows.  Pray for strength, wisdom and healing rest for those who serve there, including Simon, Pat, Kathy, Anne, Barry, Jo and their families.

·      Elaine and Jim Pounder and their Little Church ministry have had a difficult 2020 and something new is beginning.  They need your prayers for healing strength and time with family as their ministry continues to spread around the world in a model of home churches. They have begun a YouTube channel and I urge you to subscribe and watch their sound teaching episodes in these warm videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/thelittlechurchworld ).  And website: The Little Church World.

·      Isaias and Judith (Ambassadors for Christ the Philippines) – the entire Catorce family represent this conservative, Bible-based ministry in a remarkably difficult mission field.  They have maintained a teaching seminary and discipling ministry there for dozens of years.  Both are dealing with serious health issues and need your fervent prayers.  Judith is still recovering from complicated back surgery.  You can visit their new website:  https://afcph.org/  to learn more.  Pray our Father keep these servants strong and restores their health.  Please consider sending a note of encouragement to Isaias Catorce, who teaches and leads the groups at icatorce@gmail.com

Today they have a new website and Doug still teaches:  Cornerstone Bible Church.)

·      Buddy and Susan – Pray for their health and their needs as they labour in far north Queensland.  They were one of the first families to welcome me to Australia.  Amazing Christian teachers!

·      Stu, Jo, Laura and Jason – pray for this devoted and loving family who continue to serve Jesus Christ in New Zealand.  Pray for Laura’s husband Joji and for Jason who is studying in the USA.  Keep them strong, healthy and resolute for the Lord.
