Listening?

“The Word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh the great city, and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.’ But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare, and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.” Jonah 1:1-3

“Where can I go from Thy Spirit? Or where can I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, Thou art there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold Thou art there. If I take the wins of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Thy hand will lead me and Thy right hand will lay hold of me.” Psalm 139:7-10

Have you ever sought the will of the Lord? Of course you have, we all have if we are wise children of His. Did you ever get the “wrong answer” according to what you “knew” the answer should be? It is the “wrong answer” because you don’t like the answer or that the answer will take too much time to come to fruition. God IS speaking to you right this moment. If it seems to be the “wrong message” perhaps you really don’t want to listen.

Better Than Seeing

“For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we make known to you, the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honour and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, ‘This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased” – and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
“And so we have the prophetic Word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” II Peter 1:16-21
Have you ever thought about how amazingly valuable God’s Word is?!! Here, Peter speaks of being an eye witness to great events, yet, he points us to God’s Word as the great resource. Listening to my opinion on God’s Word or someone else’s opinion about God’s Word is never like when YOU spend YOUR time in God’s Word exploring it for the special truths the Holy Spirit will reveal to you.

Reluctance

“Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered Him, saying, ‘Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.’ But He answered and said to them, ‘An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign shall be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh shall stand up with this generation at the judgment, and shall condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.’” Matthew 12:38-42

Jonah was a most devoted and zealous prophet of God. He was also the most prejudice and, actually, bigoted against any race but the Jews. Yet God, with His amazing sense of humour and justice, patiently, purposefully, lovingly sent Jonah to minister to people he hated. The book of Jonah is about many things, but reluctance is the one God has guided me to to start 2010. I pray it serves you and all He will share with you in this series.
