Housecleaning Mirrors

“Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the Word implanted, which is able to save your souls.

"But prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

"For if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

"But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does.” James 1:20-25

Have you ever watched a child see his reflection in a mirror for the first time?  There’s a distinct stage they seem to go through where they’re completely fascinated with studying their reflection.

When we’re reborn into God’s family, typically, we begin reading God’s Word with the same enthusiasm as a child has for a mirror.  God’s Word is like the gift of a heart-mirror.

He wants us to gaze at the perfection of His Son, see our hearts for what they are without Him, and make His image our new purpose in life.

“But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” II Corinthians 3:18

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Housecleaning - Thinking

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.  Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men.  The Lord is near.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things."  Philippians 4:4-8

It's great to make lists of places to check when you're cleaning house.

The verses above give us some places to begin within ourselves as we clean house in preparation for the miracle of Easter:

•        Are you rejoicing in this day?
•        Is your forbearing (gentle) spirit known by others?
•        Do you trust the Lord is near?
•        Are you anxious for anything?
•        Are you praying regularly?
•        Are you thankful for what you have?
•        Is your heart at peace?
•        Is your mind filled with things that are pure, lovely, of good repute, excellent or praiseworthy?

If not, identify where you need to do more housecleaning.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Housecleaning - Identification

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Thy presence, and do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me.

"Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners will be converted to Thee. ---

"For Thou dost not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering.  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.”  Psalm 51:10-13, 16-17

You may have difficulty remembering what it was like before you accepted the free gift the Lord Jesus offered you.  Remembering how lost, alone, afraid and hopeless you were might be even more difficult.

Think about how much relief and joy you felt on the day you knew for certain the Lord had saved you; that day when the Holy Spirit came to comfort and teach you - even though it may be a bit of a struggle.

Just for this moment try to remember the “lost-ness” and the “found-ness”.

That’s the joy thorough housecleaning can produce!  As we near the amazing day when Jesus conquered death for us for Eternity, let us prepare our hearts.  Why should we do this?

For the Lord has promised:

“Then I will make up to you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten, – And you shall have plenty to eat and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you, then My people will never be put to shame.

"Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and there is no other, and my people will never e put to shame.” Joel 2:25-27

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
