Keeping on...

"Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has great reward.  For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised, for yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay.

"But my righteous one shall live by faith.  And if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.  But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul." Hebrews 10:35-39

"Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin, which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:1

Perseverance is the quality of character that enables one to pursue a goal in spite of obstacles and difficulties. -- The Christian life is meant to be active, not passive.  The Christian is called to pursue with diligence the will of God.  To do this requires perseverance."*

They say a marathon race is won in the last mile, not the many miles before it.  Something to think about!  Have a good weekend my friends and please remember all those on the prayer list!

Rushing for the Right

"'For truly in this city there were gathered together against Thy holy servant Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever Thy hand and Thy purpose predestined to occur.

"'And now Lord, take note of the threats, and grant that Thy bond-servants may speak Thy Word with all confidence, while Thou dost extend Thy hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of Thy holy servant Jesus.'

"And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the Word of God with boldness." Acts 4:27-28

"It does not matter whether you are predominantly a person of strengths or weaknesses on the natural level.  You may be the most competent person in your field, but you can be sure, that if God is going to use you He will cause you to feel keenly your dependence on Him.  He will often blight the very thing we feel confident in, so that we will learn to depend on Him, not on ourselves."*

Peter and John strolled through the city one day and spoke with a man lame from birth.  And the Lord healed the man.  The authorities were jealous.  Yet, Peter and John continue to preach the Truth.  So the authorities stopped these two competent men by putting them in jail.

At their trial, Peter preached to those assembled.  They forbid them to preach again and released them.  Peter and John were silenced for a time, while God reminded them of their dependence on Him alone.

I can do it MYSELF !

"'I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He lifts up; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it, that it may bear more fruit.

"'Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branches cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can  you, unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches, he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.'" John 15:1-2, 4-5

"And He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.'  Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me." II Corinthians 12:9

"We live in a world that worships independence and self-reliance....We tend to rely on our knowledge of Scripture, our own business acumen, our ministry experience, and even our goodness and morality.  God has to teach us through adversity to rely on Him instead of ourselves."*

We LOVE our independence, our ability to take things on and manage them ourselves...just like a child who insists on doing it themselves!  However, our greatest strength is perfected in our weakness.  Otherwise, we only trust in our Father God when something is out of our hands.  Yet, step by step He teaches us to lean.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Abusive fathers/ mothers

"For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.  You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your strivings against sin; and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

'My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.'

"It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline.

"All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."  Hebrews 12:11

"But we often resist God's work in our lives.  We shrink from the rod of God's discipline instead of seeking to profit from it.  We are more desirous of relief FROM the adversity than we are of its profit unto holiness."* [my emphasis]

Although today, a child may sue his parents for fairly and carefully disciplining him, the benefit of discipline has been perverted by the unbridled rage (physical and verbal) of some adults against (their) children.

Note the words:  "peaceful fruit".  Discipline is not pleasant, but it is not abuse either.  God is the PERFECT Father we never had, because only He can be perfect and only He can love and discipline us perfectly!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Building Blocks?

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is now law.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

"If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.  Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another."  Galatians 5:22-25

"But then adversity comes.....The growth in Christian character we thought had occurred in our lives seems to vanish like a vapour.  We feel as if we are back in spiritual kindergarten again.  But through this experience God has revealed to us some of the remaining corruption within us."*

Adversity is not a road block, but a building block.  When you see it that way, it makes the journey along the road easier.
