"For consider Him who
has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow
weary and lose heart. You have not yet
resisted to the point of shedding blood in your strivings against sin; and you
have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
'My son, do not regard
lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; for
those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He
receives.'
"It is for discipline
that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom
his father does not discipline.
"All discipline for
the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been
trained by it, afterwards, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness." Hebrews 12:11
"But we often resist God's work in our lives. We shrink from the rod of God's discipline
instead of seeking to profit from it. We
are more desirous of relief FROM the adversity than we are of its profit unto
holiness."* [my emphasis]
Although today, a child may sue his parents for fairly and
carefully disciplining him, the benefit of discipline has been perverted by the
unbridled rage (physical and verbal) of some adults against (their)
children.
Note the words:
"peaceful fruit".
Discipline is not pleasant, but it is not abuse either. God is the PERFECT Father we never had,
because only He can be perfect and only He can love and discipline us
perfectly!
Take care with love, especially His! Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
