Start At the Beginning

"Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, ‘Come here, and hear the words of the Lord your God.’  And Joshua said, ‘By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly dispossess from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amonrite, and the Jebusite.  Behold the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over ahead of you into the Jordan.

“Now then, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man for each tribe.  And it shall come about when the soles of the feet of the priest who carry the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, and the waters which are flowing down from above shall stand in one heap.’” Joshua 3:9-13

Once we’re saved our perspective changes...we see things from different “angles” and notice things we’ve not noticed before.  You know, those “little miracles” of God’s perfect timing, the lost letter, the coincidence or the arrival of a person at your door that you need to spend time with.  The “little” miracles that make our early walk seem so alive.  God really SEEMS to be everywhere, palpable, close, intimate.  Life sometimes squeezes that perspective from us with all its demands and dangers...what can we do?

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Thy presence, and do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners will be converted to Thee.” Psalm 51:10-12

Even Right NOW!

It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking I will hear.  Thus says the Lord, ‘Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool, where then is a house you could build for Me?  And where is a place that I may rest?

“For My hand made all these things.  Thus all these things came into being,’ declares the Lord.  ‘But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My Word.’” Isaiah 65:24; 66:1-2

Right now He is right beside you.  Imagine His arm is around your shoulders and that He is looking in your eyes...and you can see His love in a new way.  Just tell Him what’s on your heart.  Because right now He is listening and He truly cares.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Good Results

“And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to use.

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.  But God DEMONSTRATES His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:3-8

When we think we cannot face another moment of “challenge” and think we may be failing the “test”, we can look up and realise there IS good coming from it and be grateful for the way God demonstrates His love for us by helping us grow up and grow better for His plan!

Eyes Have It

“For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” II Chronicles 16:9a

“The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” Psalm 34:15

“Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:26

Our eyes bring us so much information each day as we look around at the wonder surrounding us!  Yet the Lord’s eyes are active every moment, watching and weeping for us when we are feeling lost or in pain.  Look up...and see His love!

Had Enough?

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

“Therefore also God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

“So then my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:5-13

Do you ever feel you have reached your limit...that you just can’t take it anymore...that it is too much for too long...that it is ENOUGH?  Well I have and it is true that when you get to the end of your rope, He ties a knot in it so you can hold on longer and He holds you when you have no more strength!  I love the promise that He is at work in each of His children to will and work through us for His vision that everyone will come to know Him.

Doubt vs. Trust

“Thus says the Lord, ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord.  For he will be like a bush in the desert and will not see when prosperity comes, but will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, a land of salt without inhabitant.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose trust is in the Lord.  For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.” Jeremiah 17:5-8

We always have a choice to trust or doubt in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves.  It would seem trusting is the more active of the two choices; the one that takes the most effort and energy...but doubt is by far the greater tax on our hearts and souls.

Who May Be Watching?

“Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages have come.  Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.  No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that yu may be able to endure it.”  I Corinthians 10:11-13

“For no temptation – no trial regarded as enticing to sin, no matter how it comes or where it leads – has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man – that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear.

“But God is faithful to His Word and to His compassionate nature, and He can be trusted not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will always also provide the way out – the means of escape to a landing place – that you may be capable and strong and powerful patiently to bear up under it.” I Corinthians 10:13 The Amplified Bible

Sometimes we can forget that temptation may tempt us especially so others fall or stand by our ability to trust in the promise that God gives us the strength we need to resist.

Go On or Quit?

“’Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God, believe also in Me.  In My Father’s house are many dwelling places.  If it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am there you may be also.  And you know the way where I am going.’

“Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?’  Jesus said to him, ‘I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’” John 14:1-6

Jesus knows where we are and where we have been; and He knows where we will go ultimately – both the step-by-step of our daily lives and into our Eternity.  He is there to guide us and comfort us when we make decisions that will hurt us or others.  Our challenge is to keep this in mind and lean on Him when we think we cannot go on.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Reasonably Righteous

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?’  And the woman said to the serpent, ‘From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.’’

“And the serpent said to the woman, ‘You surely shall not die!  For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’” Genesis 3:1-5

“Your boasting is not good.  Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?  Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened.  For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.” I Corinthians 5:6-7

When we recognise that God loves us and that our sin keeps us from Him, we long to be with Him.  Some think they have lived a “reasonably righteous” life and that in the balance they will go to Heaven – their good outweighs their bad, yet...

“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” James 2:10

That would be hopeless if it was not for God also giving us a lifetime supply of Spiritual soap in I John 1:9!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene

Anything, Nothing & Everything

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.  Then God said, ‘Let there be light”; and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.  And God called the light day, and the darkness He called night.  And there was evening and there was morning, one day.”  Genesis 1:1-5

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5

I love the fact that God created everything and He didn’t need anything to do it!  Isn’t that neat?!

The series from Christ For Real, by Charles Price ended last week, so this week I am considering a new topic.  If you have something in mind, let me know.
