Where's Your Love?

"Remember therefore what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent.  If therefore you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.'" Revelation 3:3

"Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boasting pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

" And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever." I John 2:15-17

The yeast of worldly ambition had spread in the dough of the congregation of Sardis until all but a small corner was ready to turn a blind eye to "gentle and deceiving compromise".  The pay off?  The appearance of success in the outside world.

Appearances are deceiving and dangerous to our walk.  When we take Christ off the seat of the throne of our lives and in our churches, what sits down is human "good deeds" for ulterior motives.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

Sardis: Reputation vs Reality

"'And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:  He who has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars, says this:  'I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.

"'Wake up and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God.'" Revelation 3:1-2

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2

Sardis was a great city, destroyed fully by earthquake and conquered repeatedly.  The Church was founded and eventually begin to grow and growth itself became the focus.

And grew it did.  It was a popular progressive, and energetic church with many programs attracting many to the gathering.  Yet popularity with people is not where the focus should be.

When we become enchanted with growth and numbers over a focus on the Lordship of Jesus Christ we are flirting with danger.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

International Date Line Interruption

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."  Romans 8:1

"But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places to Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.  For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:4-10

I must interrupt the flow of this "Rational Read of Revelation" study to express my thanks to each of you for encouraging me over the years, with active purpose:  of letters (yes paper ones!), emails and even other types of offerings and expressions of thanks.

I have not been home since 2006 and will miss Thanksgiving with my precious brother, Tim and his wife, Barb.  I will miss seeing and sharing thoughts and great food with David and Heidi and with friends such as Annette, Lyle, Jeff and Rachel and Fred...so many people that I am better off not trying to remember...you know who you are and how the Lord uses you in my life to bless me.

And most of all I thank my Heavenly Father for reaching out tirelessly for me when I was lost and outside His protection and family.  I am thankful He saved my Mom and Dad, who are now enjoying being in His presence.  What a Saviour we have!  What blessings we enjoy!  I wish you the best for this day, whether you are in the USA or not, it is a day to spend remembering how blessed we are!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
