The Verse that Saved my Mom

“And two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.  And when they came to the place called The Skill, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

And one of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, ‘Are You not the Christ?  Save Yourself and us!’  But the other answered, and rebuking him said, ‘Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence f condemnation?

“And we indeed justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but his man has done nothing wrong.’  And he was saying, ‘Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!’  And He said to him, ‘Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.’” Matthew 22:32-33, 39-43

Well, of course, the verse did not save my Mom, but it was because of that verse that my Mom realised that, we are all just like that thief on the cross -- guilty, lost, without hope and completely helpless.

She had resigned herself, believing she could not be saved because she was on a ventilator and could not leave the hospital -- so she could not take communion or be baptised as she was taught was necessary.  But God had a plan for my Mom and that verse was what unlocked her heart and give her hope for eternity.

The love and sacrifice of the Lord is greater than we can ever fathom.  He waits for each one of us to reach out to Him, tell Him we know we are helpless and hopeless and that we understand only He has the power to love us through all.

For those of you who have lost a dear one, know that Jesus is faithful to reach out until the last second to pull each of His children into His eternal kingdom.  And that is certainly a huge mystery.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

Adjust Your Perspective

“’You who are far away, hear what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge My might.  Sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling has seized the godless.  Who among us can live with the consuming fire?  Who among us can live with continual burning?’

“He who walks righteously, and speaks with sincerity, He who rejects unjust gain, and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; he who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil; he will dwell on heights; his refuge will be the impregnable rock, his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.”  Isaiah 33:15

Scott Peck’s very popular book, The Road Less Travelled, starts with these three words:  “Life is difficult!”  For some, that seems an understatement…and yet, once the Lord Jesus Christ takes His rightful place on the throne of your life, your perspective changes.

Psalm 139 is a good attitude-adjuster that awakens you to the reality of God’s sovereignty.  His life and death were just for you, planned before you were a gleam in your father’s eye.

Can you imagine how He watches over you and smiles at your progress!  His plan is so amazing…what is happening in your life is for your good and His glory and there are no mistakes ever.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
