“God, having spoken to the fathers long ago in the voices and writings of the prophets, in many separate revelations -- each of which set forth a portion of the truth, and in many ways, has in these last days spoken with finality to us in the person of One who is, by His character and nature, His Son namely Jesus, whom He appointed heir and lawful owner of all things, through whom also He created the universe -- that is, the universe as a space-time -matter continuum.

“The Son is the radiance and only expression of the glory of our awesome God reflecting God’s Shekinah glory, the Light-being, the brilliant light of the divine, and the exact representation and perfect imprint of His Father’s essence and upholding and maintaining and propelling all things -- the entire physical and spiritual universe -- by His powerful word -- carrying the universe along to its predetermined goal.

“When He Himself -- and no other -- had by offering Himself on the cross as a sacrifice for sin, accomplished purification from sins and established our freedom from guilt,  He sat down -- revealing His completed work at the right hand of the Majesty on high ….” Hebrews 1:1-4a The Amplified Bible

God is not playing games with us.  He wants us to know what His standards are.  “The Bible is a dependable source and it is our standard.  By it we test all teachings and dogmas and doctrines just as we gauge all distance by linear rule.”[1]

The problem remains that most of us do not take time to read it.  I suppose some of you who read this devotion wonder why I go to the trouble to type out God’s Word when you could read it for yourself.

Yet, I know we lead busy lives and have many distractions.  I pray God uses the short bits of reading and the WeakEnd Assignments to feed your hearts.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

WHAT NATURE DOES NOT PROVE

“In the beginning before all time there was the Word, Jesus Christ, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.  He was continually existing in the beginning, co-eternally with God.

“All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being.

“In Him was life and the power to bestow life, and the life was the Light of men.  The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it and is unreceptive to it.” John 1:1-5

Nature proves the Creator God, but not His will for us.  That’s where the Living Word comes in.  However, in order for us to understand the character of God and His will for us regarding salvation, God Himself came down to dwell with us as Jesus Christ.

“Being God, Christ lived the holiness and mercy of God, and spoke the judgment and will of God for us.  By His life He gave us an example of Christian living and by His death He provided for our salvation.”[1]

Creation Sings The Father's Song

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and the expanse of heaven is declaring the work of His hands.  Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night reveals knowledge.

“There is no speech, nor are there spoken words from the stars; their voice is not heard.  Yet their voice in quiet evidence has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world.” Psalm 19:1-3

“For God does not overlook sin and the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth, because that which is known about God is evident within them in their inner consciousness, for God made it evident to them.

“For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship -- all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made, so that they who fail to believe and trust in Him are without excuse and without defense.” Romans 1:18-20

1.    Find a place and time where you will have at least an hour for the assignment.

2.    Have your Bible, notebook, writing implement and a refreshment.

3.    Pray and ask the Lord to open your eyes to the verses above.

4.    Listen/ watch the video for the assignment, listen to the words, then read the rest of Psalm 19.

5.    Then look around you and write down the beauty of the nature around you and thank the Lord for providing reminders of His presence around you.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

DIGESTION AND LOGIC

“Now the serpent was more crafty, subtle, skillful in deceit than any living creature of the field which the Lord God had made.  And the serpent, Satan, said to the woman, ‘Can it really be that God has said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?’

“And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden, except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You shall not eat from it nor touch it, otherwise you will die.’’

“But the serpent said to the woman, ‘You certainly will not die!  For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened – that is you will have greater awareness, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil.’

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise and insightful, she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.” Genesis 3:1-6

Many choose the truths they believe by what sounds good or what appeals to them intellectually, at the time.  They have no other common denominator, no standard or basis for their judgment other than their own logic.

However, eventually we learn that our opinion about ‘truth’ is not always dependable.  Our ‘logic’ is too easily upset by our digestion, the weather, world conditions, the time of day, who we are with, our inner motives, etc.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

THE BIBLE IS TOO BIG TO READ

Does the Bible Tell One Story?

“For His divine power has bestowed on us absolutely everything necessary for a dynamic spiritual life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

“For by these He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises of inexpressible value, so that by them you may escape from the immoral freedom that is in the world because of disreputable desire, and become sharers of the divine nature.

“For we did not follow cleverly devised stories or myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty, His grandeur, His authority, His sovereignty.

“So we have the prophetic word made more certain.  You do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and light breaks through the gloom and the morning star arises in your hearts.

“But understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of, or comes from one’s own personal or special interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”  II Peter 1:3-4, 16, 19-21

Wrong religions begin when someone gets inspired and searches for or has found a Bible verse to prove their great new idea about God and our future.  The problem comes because what they find they tear out of context.  Bible truth is always in harmony with the rest of the Bible.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible is not filled with contradictions.  The problem is that the Bible is a big book.  It takes about 80 hours to read straight through.

Most have not read most of it.  Most have not read the Old Testament from start to end.  Some have read the New Testament from start to end.  Some might have a favourite book or a few favourite verses, they have picked up at church but reading it for themselves is … well life is so busy.

And thus, we are easily misled by someone’s emotions and convincing argument.  The Acts 17:11 quote from yesterday would make a great verse to memorise, because if we don’t search the Scriptures for ourselves, we are unprepared to know when someone is leading us astray.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
