By Ligonier Ministries

“Remind the people of these facts, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God to avoid petty controversy over words, which does no good, and upsets and undermines and ruins the faith of those who listen.

“Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman tested by trial who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skilfully teaching the Word of truth.

“But avoid all irrelevant babble and godless chatter, with its profane, empty words, for it will lead to further ungodliness.” II Timothy 2:14-16 (throughout this series I will typically be using The Amplified Bible)

Other than the Bible, my first ‘baby Christian’ book was from courses I took with Moody Bible Institute called, God’s Word Made Plain, A Birds Eye View Bible Course.  It was written by Mrs Paul Friederichsen in 1958.

This small, 250-page book is filled with reproductions of her charming chalk drawings as she and her husband served on various mission fields, including The Philippines and America.  It is still being printed today and I encourage you to find a copy for yourself.

The purpose she stated for writing the book:  “I have found that there is a great hunger among churchgoers and nonchurchgoers to know the answers to their spiritual questions.  They want a short cut to understand the Bible, and they want to know what they want to know right now.  This course is designed to give a quick over all view of the highlights of God’s truth, and to whet the appetite for further and deeper study.”

As the world around us grows darker, we are charged to be the light to those stumbling in confusion.  The way to do that is to know and be able to know and share the basics of God’s Word clearly.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

You can easily find the WeakDay Devotion online by doing a Google search for ‘WeakDay Devotion’.  (Also, there is an android ‘Google Blogger’ app you can download to read them on your phone.  Not sure about Apple.)

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS

·      UPDATE -Israel – for the time being, there is a cease-fire and the clean-up and finger-pointing is beginning.  Many on both sides have been wounded and some have died.  Pray God protects His chosen people and land as only He can.  Let His power and love of Israel be demonstrated clearly for all to see and let there be peace for now.  We must be ever watchful.

·      Louise, sister of Rachael – has come through the surgery (double mastectomy) successfully and had a second surgery for the reconstruction that didn’t go well.  Please pray as she waits for another month or so for the second surgery and that it will be safe and successful.  Pray for her family and supporters and her health care providers that they have compassion and wisdom.  They did get all the cancer, so that is a thanksgiving point.

·      Isaias and Judith (Ambassadors for Christ the Philippines) Isaias and Judith (Ambassadors for Christ the Philippines) – the Philippines is a remarkably difficult mission field and Isaias, Judith and their entire family have maintained a teaching and discipling ministry there for dozens of years.  They are both facing serious health issues and need your fervent prayers.  Judith has come through her complicated back surgery and is recovering.  Please visit their new website:  https://afcph.org/  to learn more.  Pray our Father keep these servants strong and restores their health.  They still need an additional $4,000 for the surgery.  Thank the Lord for those who have now donated $8,000).  If you are unable to donate, please consider sending a note of encouragement to Isaias Catorce, who teaches and leads the groups at icatorce@gmail.com

·      URGENT - India – the situation there is grim with a second wave of COVID-19.  Pray for those suffering, the tireless healthcare workers and those who support them, including the many burying the bodies.

·      Sophie – three-year old daughter of a friend is now home from an extended stay in the hospital but still frail and unwell.  Please continue to pray for her, her parents and health carers that they will discover the problem and fix it.

·      Tim – my brother – for his strength and wisdom and that he rests safely and soundly in the arms of the Lord while he works through a difficult challenge.

·      Ray Sr. – battling cancer and has been moved to respite care.  Pray the Lord opens His heart to the Truth of salvation and through this time, relationships with family are strengthened and that Ray Jr and Kathy would be able to know of his decision.

·      Jenny S – Bible teacher at a local Bible school for curiosity under change, as the vision of her organisation changes with new leadership.  Help her identify the balance of her unique contribution with the new focus.  Pray the Lord maintains her health as she walks through this time of stress.

·      Peter R – recently had an appendectomy and now discovers he has prostate cancer.  Treatment is unsure at this time.  Pray for Jill, his wife that she has the extra strength she needs to travel this journey with him.

·      David – as his health waxes and wanes during this challenging time.  Pray for Heidi who cares for him and his little companion dog, Sparky.  Pray God watches over him and steadies his steps and his heart.

·      Dr. Brent and Kelley – that the Lord will use the current situation and ‘the letter’ for His glory and that some good will come from it.

·      Cathy – as she faces stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  Her chemo has begun.  She had her CAT scan.  No results yet.  She is Barb (my sister-in-law’s) sister-in-law.  They have a beautiful family.  Please pray for them and their health carers as they travel through this journey.

·      Gloria – had an infection in one of her legs that required significant amputation surgeries and now she is grateful for her prayers as she has had funds provided for a prosthetic.  Pray for her patience as she learns to walk again.

·      Pat and Isobel – as they serve tirelessly, pray the Lord refreshes and strengthens them.

·      Ian – as he recovers from knee replacement surgery.

·      Hans – a dear friend in Germany, continues his immunotherapy for lung cancer.  Pray for his ongoing strength through the pain, patience and God’s mercy.  Continue to pray for his healthcare providers and that he is surrounded by faithful and compassionate Christian friends who will support him through this journey.  Pray for his Mom (age 83) who is unwell herself, that their time together will be filled with extraordinary good memories and lots of love.

·      Callilah – a lost child.  Pray the Lord will capture her heart.

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.

Pray for the World
