Mother Of Prophet Samuel (Biblical Stories Explained)

By Grace Digital Network

[Hannah’s Song of Thanksgiving] “’The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.  The Lord makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts.

“’He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with nobles, and inherit a seat of honour; for the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and He set the world on them.

“He keeps the feet of His godly ones, but the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; for not by might shall a man prevail.  Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered; against them He will thunder in the heavens, the Lord will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength to His king, and will exalt the horn of His anointed.’” I Samuel 2:7-10

Sometimes we need to be reminded that things that are happening in our lives and in the world are not an accident or a mistake…Almighty God rules over all and in all.

His timing is perfect, regardless of our perception.  In the end there will be those who found the ‘narrow way’ (Matthew 7:13-14) and those who chose to follow the crowd.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)

Hannah Knew What We Didn’t Know’

By Grace Digital Network (15 mins 11 sec)

“Then Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh.  Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the Lord.  She, greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly.

“She made a vow and said, ‘O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.’” I Samuel 1:9-11

Each year Elkanan would journey into Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts.  He had two wives and children by the one, but his other wife, Hannah, was baren and longed for a child.  In her longing, she promised that she would give her child back to God, if He would only provide her with this validation.

We can never know what God’s plans are for our life, but we can know our God.  In the case of Hannah, God’s plan involved postponing her years of childbearing.  While her husband and others judged her as a failure, yet God was moving ahead with His plan.

Think of those in your world who are struggling with God’s timing in answering their prayers and who need your love and support as they wait.  It may also be God’s plan that you are the one who may help them remain steadfast in their faith and confident in His timing to bring fulfilment to their lives.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)

Knowing vs. Feeling in Worship’

By Ligonier Ministries

“But realise this, that in the last days difficult tiles will come.  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable,

malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; avoid such men as these. II Timothy 3:1-5

Where is the Truth?

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 16-17

Campus Crusade for Christ had a little tract called ‘The Four Spiritual Laws’ and although it has mostly fallen out of use today, it contained a powerful illustration of what to do with our emotions when it comes to our faith in Christ.

The engine of the train is FACT.

The coal car (where the energy comes from to make the engine go) is FAITH.

And the last car of the train, the caboose is FEELINGS.

It is clear, that a train cannot be pulled by the caboose.  It is our faith in the facts of Scripture that changes our lives, regardless of how we feel about it.

By i24NEWS English

"Now the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, ‘This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.  Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household.' ...

“’Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbour nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.

“’Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.  You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.  Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.

“’They shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.  Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails.  And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.

“’Now you shall eat it in this manner with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste – it is the Lord’s Passover.   For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments – I am the Lord.

“’The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.  And when your children say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?' you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians but spared our homes.''  Exodus 12:1-3, 26-27a

Preparing for holidays is always a busy time and so it would have been for all the Israelites and Jesus’ disciples who lived and/ or travelled to Jerusalem for the strict preparations.  It took days, cleaning and selecting the specific foods and the lamb, the cooking, the setting of the table, etc.

The people -- including the disciples -- were so busy setting things up, they had no time to imagine how the Scriptures regarding the details of the meal and the traditions that accompanied it, were far more meaningful than they ever expected.  When you read Exodus or just the passage above, you can see how carefully this time of preparation was, how many details had to be followed.

However, from THIS Passover, the Law relinquished its power to the blood of God’s perfect Lamb, sacrificed for any who would admit their helplessness to sin and believe in Him.  Only in this way would each of us have the hope and promise of a future.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)

The True Greatness of God’

By nikolai boyadjief (16 mins 48 sec)

“When Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples, ‘You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion.’

“Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathering together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him.  But they were saying, ‘Not during the festival, otherwise a riot might occur among the people.’” Matthew 26:1-5

This was not the first time Jesus told His disciples of His fate but it would be the last time He warned them.  It made me think about how easy to let our humanness cloud what we understand of who Jesus is and what He wants from us.

There is a brilliant book I once read called Your God is too Small, written in 1964, by the brilliant Christian thinker, J. B. Phillips (you can still find it on Amazon.com).  It set the scene by sharing a series of ‘images’ we all can fall into of who God is before (and frequently after) we accept His grace and salvation, for instance some think of God as:

·      a sweet grandpa, floating around on a cloud somewhere up there who just watches over us, smiling.

·      as a strict disciplinarian who will not tolerate stepping over a line.

·      as a sort of fairy godmother with a wand we contact when we need something

Just like the disciples who missed the critical nature of Jesus actual, unfathomable character and might, they could not imagine they were worthy enough for what God had in store for them.

The God-man came to give His live as a sacrifice so that each one of us can be saved from the ultimate consequences of our own wilful sins.  Who would have ever imagined such a thing!  Not me, not you and not the disciples who walked daily with Him.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)
