Why Sin's Effective

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?’  And the woman said to the serpent, ‘From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, letst you die.’’

“And the serpent said to the woman, ‘You surely shall not die!  For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’

“When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” Genesis 3:1-6

“Sin is very generous to the feelings!  It can look good, sound good and feel good.  In fact, temptation by definition is attractive!  If it were not attractive it would not be temptation.  If I disliked sin, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but my problem lies in the fact that I live it, and the only reason I commit sin is because I either enjoy it or it presents to me a good way out of a situation at the time.”*

Eve knew the truth.  Did you read that in the passage above?  Eve also embellished/amplified God’s words too, did you read that?  It looked good for food (a necessity easy to rationalise) and she was probably hungry.  It looked (felt and smelled) very “pretty” and after all, who doesn’t want to be wise...even God would want us to be wise, wouldn’t He?

Sin tempts us easily, yet temptation is not the choice to engage...we make the choice!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
