I Have the Holy Spirit in Me?’

From Real Truth. Real Quick.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Saviour], he is a new creature, reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away.  Behold, new things have come because spiritual awakening brings a new life.

“But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, making us acceptable to Him and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, so that by our example we might bring others to Him,” II Corinthians 5:17-18

“But the fruit of the Spirit, the result of His presence within us is love, unselfish concern for others, joy, inner peace, patience, not the ability the wait, but how we act while waiting, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 22-23

“Therefore He is able also to save forever, completely, perfectly for eternity those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede and intervene on their behalf with God.” Hebrews 7:25

“Conversion means a change of mind that results in a change of action; it is an ‘about face’ from sin to righteousness, from Hell to Heaven, from Satan unto God.  When we respond to the convicting voice of God and receive Christ as our personal Saviour, we begin a new life; we are converted; saved.

“’Baptised’ into God and ‘baptism of the Holy Ghost’ both refer to the act of becoming one in Christ, by receiving the Saviour.  This is not referring to water baptism or to some emotional second experience in the Christian life, but to salvation.

"We are immersed into Christ, and He is in us.  It is a union of faith and love that nothing can break asunder. – We do not need to agonise and pray for baptism.  Christ waits to come in if we only open the door.[1]

Some people try to divide Christians into ‘filled with the Holy Spirit’ and those who have not yet received the ‘second blessing’.  Perhaps this false teaching comes from the Old Testament activity of the Holy Spirit, where He came into and left individuals.  Think of the prophets, for example.

It was not lasting, and the Spirit would withdraw.  However, while someone was filled with the Spirit, they were able to do extraordinary acts as God directed.

But nowhere in the New Testament does it teach there is a second blessing, a need for it, proof of it or a need to long for and labour after it.  The moment you ask Jesus to save you and accepts His gift of gracious salvation, the Holy Spirit comes into your life permanently.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
