[Jesus sharing with His disciples] “’But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’  But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts and taken complete possession of them.

“’But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper – Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor-Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby – will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him – The Holy Spirit – to you to be in close fellowship with you.

“’And He, when He comes will convict the world about the guilt of sin and the need for a Saviour, and about righteousness, and about judgment; about sin and the true nature of it, because they do not believe in Me and My message;

“’ …about righteousness – personal integrity and godly character, because I am going to My Father and you will no longer see Me; about judgment – the certainty of it, because the ruler of this world – Satan – has been judged and condemned.’” John 16:5-11 – The Amplified Bible

“The sin of unbelief – or not receiving the Saviour – is the sin that sends sinners to Hell.  The Spirit of God convicts men of sin by speaking to their consciences through the Word of God and the testimony of believers.[1]

This two-pronged approach from the Holy Spirit is about our sin.  When we sin, we accumulate a debt from our sin that must be paid – that is God’s requirement for justice.

Once we agree that we are helpless against our sin nature -- and we admit our sin to the Lord -- Jesus Christ pays the price for all our sins – past, present and future and saves us for eternity (regardless of how we live our lives afterward).

It is then the Holy Spirit comes to dwell forever in our hearts.

However, each day we find creative, purposeful and accidental ways to disobey God – to sin and ‘get our hands dirty’.  To be ‘healthy and useful children’ in the Body of believers and for our witness with those who are pre-Christians to be effective, we must regularly admit our hands are dirty.

Like ‘washing our hands’ when we are exposed to dirt or germs, the Holy Spirit is with us to remind us to reach for the ‘Spiritual soap’ of I John 1:9 to keep our hands clean before the Lord.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
