“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was pierced through for our transgressions.

“He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our wellbeing fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.  All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us ALL to fall on Him.”  Isaiah 53:4-6

In Refections on the Psalms, C. S. Lewis wrote:  “The Eternal may meet us in what is, by our present measurements, a day, or (more likely) a minute or a second; but we have touched what is not in any way commensurate with lengths of time, whether long or short.

“Hence our hope finally to emerge, if not altogether from time (that might not suit our humanity) at any rate from the tyranny, the unilinear poverty, of time, to ride it, not to be ridden by it, and so to cure that always aching wound which mere succession and mutability inflict on us, almost equally when we are happy and when we are unhappy.

“For we are so little reconciled to time that we are even astonished at it.  ‘How he’s grown!’ we exclaim.  “How time flies!’ as though the universal form of our experience were again and again a novelty.

“It is as strange as if a fish were repeatedly surprised at the wetness of water.  And that would be strange indeed; unless of course, the fish were destined to become, one day, a land animal.”

Assignment:

1.    Find an hour and place where you will not be interrupted.  Have your Bible, notebook, writing implement and a refreshment and perhaps some tissues.

2.    Pray the Lord will give you insight into this assignment.

3.    Take time to listen to the video – yes, with your eyes closed, focus on the words.

4.    Consider the love of a Father who would sacrifice His only Son to pay for the sins you have committed against Him.

5.    Write your thoughts and thank your Father for reminding you.cially His, Darlene (who still prays with and for you each day)

PS:  Find my statement of faith:  https://especiallyhislove.blogspot.com (where you will also find a series of beginner Bible studies to share). NEW PRAYER REQUESTS

·      Flood-ravaged Australia - The worst floods in over a hundred years are inundating huge areas of Australia.  Only a year ago it was astounding drought.  So many are losing everything.  Pray for the people rescuing and supporting those affected and safety for those overwhelmed by so much in the last year.

·      David – as his health waxes and wanes during this challenging time.  Pray for Heidi who cares for him and his little companion dog, Sparky.  Pray God watches over him and steadies his steps and his heart.

·      Pat and Isobel – as they serve tirelessly, pray the Lord refreshes and strengthens them.

·      Elaine and Jim Pounder and their Little Church ministry have had a difficult 2020.  They need your prayers for healing strength and time with family as their ministry continues to spread around the world in a model of home churches. They have begun a YouTube channel and I urge you to subscribe and watch their sound and warm videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/thelittlechurchworld ).  And website: The Little Church World.

·      USA – Pray the Lord will demonstrate His power in unexpected and uniting ways during these times of unrest and confusion.  Help hearts settle and rest in Him alone.  Let the truth of God’s Word and ways, overcome the drive to destroy our founding, Bible-based values.  And pray for Christ-centre, Bible-based revival in the USA and religious freedom for Christians wherever they may be.

·      Hans – a dear friend in Germany, continues his immunotherapy for lung cancer.  His MRI and brain scan went well.  Pray for his ongoing strength through the pain, patience and God’s mercy.  Continue to pray for his healthcare providers and that he is surrounded by faithful and compassionate Christian friends who will support him through this journey.  Pray for his Mom (age 83) who is unwell herself, that their time together will be filled with extraordinary good memories and lots of love.

·      Isaias and Judith (Ambassadors for Christ the Philippines) – the Philippines is a remarkably difficult mission field and Isaias and Judith and their entire family have maintained a teaching and discipling ministry there for dozens of years.  They are both facing some serious health issues and need your fervent prayers.  Please visit their new website:  https://afcph.org/ to learn more.  Pray our Father keep these servants strong, in good health, safe and supported and that they keep a balance in their lives.  They need funds badly now.  It would only take a moment to send encouragement to Isaias Catorce, who teaches and leads the groups at icatorce@gmail.com

·      J&R – recently had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with them and would appreciate prayers that God uses His words in their hearts to draw them to Him for Eternity!

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.

·      Sergio – has a job but at subsistence wages.  He is thankful for anything as Mexico is in dire economic condition.  The work is wearing him out physically.  His diabetes is presently under control and he has found a place to live.

·      Tracey’s Mom – home now.  Her ability to think clearly and care for herself is weakening.  She now has good home health care.  Pray her loved ones will make time to help her through this and support Tracey’s efforts.

·      Len Carbone – (59 years old).  Pray he wakes to the message of the Cross and the compassionate love of Jesus.  Had brain tumour surgery in 2002 and on disability since.  His loneliness has overwhelmed him as he fights with his disability and those around him.  Pray for a godly and patient friend to show him God’s love.

·      Liriel – chronically ill (kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis) and often in pain.  Pray for her comfort and for her loving and supportive husband that they share the Lord’s joy each day.

·      Uncle Dwight – (95 – Doris only brother) is growing frail.  Pray for comfort and compassion.  He is an ordained pastor and longs to go home and be with his Lord.

·      Aunt Donna – has dementia.  Please pray for her daughters so they know how best to care for her.

·      Penne –widowed after 43 years, the last ten of which she was her husband’s full-time caregiver.  She suffers mental problems from a childhood experience and has reached out to Patti (who asks for wisdom and patience).  Penne has ‘disowned’ all her family, and although a believer, does not attend fellowship for support.  Please pray for her peace of mind and God’s guidance.
