A Steve Lawson Sermon Jam by Montana Viking
(12 minutes and 51 seconds)
“But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became
angry. He prayed to the Lord and said, ‘O
Lord, is this not what I said when I was still in my country? That is why I ran to Tarshish, because I knew
that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and great in
loving-kindness, and when sinners turn to You, You revoke the sentence of
disaster against them.” Jonah 4:1-2
“For I am the Lord, I do not change, but remain faithful
to My covenant with you; that is why you, O sons of Jacob, have not come to an
end. Yet from the days of your fathers
you have turned away from My statutes and ordinances and have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,’ say
the Lord of hosts. ‘But you say, ‘How
shall we return?’” Malachi 3:6-7
“Every good thing given, and every perfect gift is from
above; it comes down from the Father of lights, the Creator and Sustainer of
the heavens, in whom there is no variation, no rising or setting or shadows
cast by His turning, for He is perfect and never changes.” James 1:17
“God’s attitude is always the same toward righteousness and
sin. He never changes His mind, for He
knows the end from the beginning … But do not forget that God changed the
judgment upon Nineveh because Nineveh changed its ways. God changed His dealings with those people as
they changed their ways. God will ALWAYS
punish sin;’ when men repent and change their ways, God can bless instead of
punish.[1]”
The story of Jonah has been used by some who want to argue
that God does change His mind rather than being immutable/ unchanging and so He
‘can be changed’. There are a few other
illustrations of God changing His mind in Scripture, as well.
However, it takes repentance for our sin and our sinful
behaviours as we reorient to obey His word.
However, repentance does not prevent consequences.
To repent: Repent, means you are going/ thinking one way away from God’s will for your life and you purposefully change your behaviour/ mind to go in the opposite direction -- toward God’s way. We repent through prayer. Prayer is the ‘spider thread’ that can move the heart of the Father.
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still
prays for you each day)
