“”How long, O God, will the
adversary revile, and the enemy spurn Your name forever? Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your
right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy [consume] them!
“Yet God is my king from of old, who
works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea by Your strength; You
broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters. You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave
him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
“You broke open springs and
torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams.
Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light
and the sun. You have established all
the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.” Psalm
74:10-17
When Job was having his say to
God, God answered him gently, but firmly, and asks Job to tell Him where Job
was when God laid the foundations of the earth!
And here in this Psalm, Asaph (the author) appeals for mercy for the
land and rehearses God’s magnificent and unmatchable creative powers and
control over all He creates.
As for the Leviathan, some believe
it represents God defeating the power of false gods. But, perhaps it is one of the ‘dinosaurs’
that youngsters are so interested in knowing about from the Bible.
Regardless, this mysterious
creature reminds us all that God’s hand hovers in strength, wisdom and majesty
over all – streams, day, night, light, the sun, boundaries of the earth, summer
and winter! That is so neat!
Take care with love, especially
His! Your servant and friend in Christ,
who still prays for you each morning.
Darlene
