AXE, SAW, CLUB OR ROD

“Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it?  Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it?  That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, or like a rod lifting him who is not wood.

“Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, will send a wasting disease among his stout warriors; and under his glory a fire will be kindled like a burning flame.  And the light of Israel will become a fire and his Holy One a flame, and it will burn and devour [consume] his thorns and his briars in a single day.

“And He will destroy the glory of his forests and of his fruitful garden, both soul and body,  and it will be as when a sick man wastes away.  And the rest of the trees of his forest will be so small in number that a child could write them down.” Isaiah 10:15-19

Like yesterday’s passage, God is using symbolism here to express an important message to His children:  No instrument or tool accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent without a greater Power controlling it.

The Assyrians were a tool in God’s hands, but they failed to recognise and acknowledge His greatness.  When a tool boasts of greater power than the One who uses it, it is in danger of being discarded or destroyed.  We too are useful in His hands but only when we allow God to use us.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

PS:  Please pray for this ministry.  This is the 20th year of endeavouring to serve others in His name to offer a smattering of Scripture daily.  Find my statement of faith by clicking (or cut and paste this link into your Web browser):  https://especiallyhislove.blogspot.com   You can find the WeakDay Devotion online by doing a Google search for “WeakDay Devotion”  (Also, there is a “Google Blogger” App you can download to read them on your phone.)

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS

  • ·        Gary McQ – will have major heart surgery (quadruple valve replacement) soon.  Pray he is surrounded by family and friends as he goes through this journey.  Pray for his strength, courage and for his heart to be at peace, as the Lord guides the hands of the surgeons and other health carers to repair his physical heart.
  • ·        Fred – has returned home safely from his trek across the USA with new insights and determinations.
  • ·        New Life Art Show – Please pray for this event (from October 9-12) hosted by the Jesus Club to support God’s work in people with intellectual disabilities.
  • ·        Terri – her relationship of 13 years has just broken and she needs prayers to travel through this journey.
  • ·        Tracey – after nearly three years of helping to lead a project, this will be Tracey’s last week.  Please pray for her continued grace and that she decides well on her next step.
  • ·        Ray’s Dad -  (Ray Sr.) struggling through the aftermath of cancer treatment.  Pray the Lord will touch Ray Sr.’s heart so he reaches out for the only hand that can save him -- the compassionate Lord Jesus.
  • ·        USA – that the Lord would demonstrate His power in unexpected and uniting way during these times of unrest and confusion.  Help hearts settle and rest in Him alone.  And let the truth of God’s Word and ways overcome the drive to destroy our founding Bible-based values.

PRAY FOR THOSE IN FULL-TIME SERVICE
