That's Some Rolling!

The Stone Rolled Away

“His grave was assigned with wicked men, yet He was with a rich man in His death, because He had done no violence, nor was there any deceit in His mouth.” Isaiah 53:9

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bringing spices which they had prepared.  And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.” Luke 24:1-3

When you visit the Holy Lands it is a strange experience.  Of course, you can’t be closer to the Lord Jesus than you are right now.  Yet, somehow walking the narrow streets and imagining this might be where He walked, taught, healed, drug His cross out to the Hill -- it adds a new dimension to what you believe.

Our group woke very early one morning to visit the possible burial place of Jesus.  The typically noisy streets were quiet at that early hour.  It was unusually cold, yet birds flitted about chirping in the sun rays breaking through the canopy of the lovely garden surrounding the tomb.

We prayed, as we did at each site we visited and then listened to the gentleman explain a bit about what we would be seeing.  The stone was unexpectantly large – at least one and a half times taller than me -- almost round and about the thickness of my two hands side-by-side (perhaps eight inches).  Rolling it aside would be virtually impossible without draft animals helping.

What is especially thought-provoking is how the Bible describes the way the stone was ‘rolled away’.  Actually, the word used means it was rolled UP from the opening!  Now that would certainly take some rolling!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
