Reading-Tool Challenge!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.

“All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5

When I first became a Christian, it was by the power of God’s Word that I had been reading since I was nine years old.  It took me a few times reading through the Bible in the next ten years before the Lord found me on my knees at the foot of His gracious cross asking for forgiveness for a short, but poor journey to reach out to Him.

I had journaled since I got my first ‘girl diary’ with a lock and key when I was also about nine.  So, it was natural to journal what I was learning by reading God’s Word, even before anyone told me I would benefit by it.

Then, I went to a Bible study one night and was challenged to write portions of Scripture out by hand.  Since that time (probably 40+ years) I’ve written out (and typed out) large segments.

The benefits?  I can ‘see and hear’ extra value in the words because I’m not just rushing to read through them.  What a blessing it is to spend time with God who is the Word.

I challenge you to try it by starting with the above short, five verse passage.  As you do, note the verbs (the action words (was, came into being, shines, comprehend)) and see what you discover for yourself!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
