"'Thus
says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray; when they have
something to bite with their teeth, they cry, 'Peace,' but against him who puts
nothing in their mouths, they declare holy war.
"Therefore
it will be night for you -- without vision.
And darkness for you -- without divination. The sun will go down on the prophets, and the
day will become dark over them.'" Micah 3:5-6
In Micah's day there were priests and prophets who flattered the leaders
and people while they sinned and rebelled against God. They promised that God was a God of love, who was
not actually so strict and who would never act on the judgments He promised for
sin.
An interesting side note: "bite
with their teeth" is a term only ever used regarding the biting of evil serpents.
The spiritual leaders of Micah's day were
doing real 'secret evil' lulling the people into feeling good about themselves,
proclaiming peace and no worries -- biting in a deadly way at the heart of God's
Truth!
Take care with love, especially His! Your servant and friend in Christ,
Darlene
