SHOPPING FOR AN OPINION

“’It will be, that the nation or the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and which will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine and with pestilence,’ declares the Lord, ‘until I have destroyed [consumed] it by his hand.

“’But as for you, do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers or your sorcerers who speak to you, saying, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’  For they prophesy a lie to you in order to remove you far from your land; and I will drive you out and you will perish.

"'But the nation which will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let remain on its land, ‘ declares the Lord, ‘and they will till it and dwell in it.’

“’I spoke words like all these to Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, ‘Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people, and live!’” Jeremiah 27:8-12

Zedekiah the king of Judah was under siege by the king of Babylon.  His prophets, soothsayers and wise men were advising him to not give in, to fight.  Yet, only Jeremiah was sent from God to protect the people of Judah, but they had to obey and submit.  It was not the message the king wanted to hear!  Yet, it was the advice that would preserve the people.

Have you ever asked someone their opinion about something important to you (or others you care about) only to realise you don’t really like their ideas?  Then you go find someone else to give you another opinion?  Most of us have.  Choosing our counsellors well is critical for our protection and growth.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
