“Woe
is me, because of my injury! My wound is
incurable. But I said, ‘Truly this is a
sickness, and I must bear it.’ My tent
is destroyed, and all my ropes are broken; my sons have gone from me and are no
more. There is no one to stretch out my
tent again or to set up my curtain.
“For
the shepherds have become stupid and have not sought the Lord, therefore they
have not prospered and all their flock is scattered. The sound of a report! Behold, it comes – a great commotion out of
the land of the north – to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a haunt of
jackals.
“I
know, O Lord, that a man’s ay is not in himself, nor is it in a man who walks
to direct his steps. Correct me, O Lord,
but with justice; not with Your anger, or You will bring me to nothing.
“Pour
our Your wrath on the nations that do not know You and on the families that do
not call Your name; for they have devoured [consumed] Jacob; they have devoured [consumed] him and have
laid waste his habitation.” Jeremiah 10:19-25
The
prophet is using an illustration of nomads searching desperately for a place to
pitch their tents, but the shepherds of the nations are evil and responsible
for the distress of the people. Instead
of leading the people to God, they are leading them away from hope and peace
and the Truth.
When
the world seems confused and losing the way, remember God hears our prayers and
although He has the ability and power to crush nations, His plans are rather to
bring them to Him. We must trust Him to
know what is best for our good and His glory.
Take
care with love, especially His! Your
servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning. Darlene

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS
- Gary McQ – seems to be lost and in neutral
as the seriousness of his diseased heart becomes more a focus of his
energies – so he has started drinking as he awaits the prognosis and
treatment. Pray the Lord sends a
wise and strong counsellor to help him through this fearful time. Pray for assurance of salvation.
- Yalawe – diagnosed
with lymphoma and who has been under various and vigorous treatment for
nearly a year now, returns to the hospital for more surgery this week (15
October). Please pray for his full
recovery and that his health providers and family would be extra gentle
with him.
- Jen – my sweet friend in the UK— had
to have her beloved companion dog, Honey, put to sleep today. Please pray for her as she grieves the
loss of a ‘friend’ who has helped her through many difficulties for the
last 16 years. She continues to
recover from a variety of health challenges and needs rest and skilful,
wise health care providers. Pray
for her neighbour, Pat who
thankfully was with Jen as they put Honey to sleep.
- SJ –
as he struggles with circumstances he did not anticipate. Pray for his willingness, for wisdom of
his counsellors as he wanders through this dark time. Pray for his ability to rest and forgive himself.
- Fred – has returned home safely from his trek across the USA with new
insights and determinations.
- Terri – her relationship of 13 years has just broken and she needs prayers
to travel through this journey.
- Tracey – Pray Tracey finds a new role that will satisfy her and allow her to
grow and share her skills and wisdom.
- Ray’s Dad -
(Ray
Sr.) struggling through the aftermath of cancer treatment. Pray the Lord will touch Ray Sr.’s heart
so he reaches out for the only hand that can save him -- the compassionate
Lord Jesus.
- USA – that the Lord would
demonstrate His power in unexpected and uniting way during these times of
unrest and confusion. Help hearts
settle and rest in Him alone. And
let the truth of God’s Word and ways overcome the drive to destroy our
founding Bible-based values.
