FACING THE WALL

“A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:  I said, ‘In the middle of my life I am to enter the gates of Sheol; I am to be deprived of the rest of my years.’  I said, ‘I will not see the Lord, the Lord in the land of the living; I will look on man no more among the inhabitants of the world.

“’Like a shepherd’s tent my dwelling is pulled up and removed from me; as a weaver I rolled up my life.  He cut me off from the loom; from day until night You make an end of [consume] me.

“’I composed my soul until morning.  Like a lion – so He breaks all my bones, from day until night You make an end for me.  Like a swallow, like a crane, so I twitter; I moan like a dove; my eyes look wistfully to the heights; O Lord, I am oppressed, be my security.’”  Isaiah 38:9-14

When Isaiah visited Hezekiah, the king was extremely ill.  Isaiah brought the painful news of his impending death and the Bible says Hezekiah immediately turned his face to the wall and wept and prayed.

No one recorded what those prayers were about.  For me, I always found the picture of this broken man huddled up against the wall of his bedroom, with tears in his eyes so very moving and sad.   Yet, God showed mercy and saved the city from the Assyrians and granted Hezekiah another fifteen years of life.

God is working in all of our lives for our good and His glory -- even when life seems grim and hopeless.  Never hesitate to ask God for radical changes.  Be bold and remember how very much He loves you.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

  • ·        USA – that the Lord would demonstrate His power in unexpected and uniting way during these times of unrest and confusion.  Help hearts settle and rest in Him alone.  And let the truth of God’s Word and ways overcome the drive to destroy our founding Bible-based values.
