At My command

“And they passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and when they had come to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.  And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; a certain man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’  And when he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the Gospel to them.” Acts 16:6-10

“The right to preach or do anything, is not that the activity is good, but that the Holy Spirit has sent us and we are operating under His authority.  HE must be the strategist in our lives and work, and we MUST give Him the right to give us our direction.”*

Christians who are overly eager, young; or sometimes those who hold onto their guilt, look for “things to do for God”.  They can be first in the Church door each time it opens, tireless servants it seems, or first to volunteer for projects or committees.  They may stand on street corners shouting the Gospel at passers-by.  Though all these activities may please men, they may fall short of the Father’s plan if they are not led by the Holy Spirit.

In the passage above, these motivated Christians set off in one direction, thinking they would do good things FOR God.  But God doesn’t need our activity any more than He needs our money.  He needs our hearts...and we need to learn to wait, listen and obey the commands of the Holy Spirit.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
