Not East & West

“The Lord performs righteous deeds and judgments for all who are oppressed.  He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.  The Lord is compassionate and gracious; slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.  He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever.

“He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving kindness toward those who fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.  Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:6-13

“There are some vividly descriptive verses in the Bible which tell us what God does with our sin.  He does not speak of our sin being removed as far as the north is from the south, but as far as the east is from the west.  North and south are fixed points, east and west are not.  – You could set off by air in a westerly direction and keep going right around the world coming back to the same spot from which you left without ever having to go east.  East and west are non-existent points, and it is as far as these non-existent points are away from each other that God has removed our transgressions from us.”*

Some think the words of Scripture are pretty ordinary, and yet details just like this are what make studying His words fascinating and encouraging.  We have four more ways God disposes of our sin in the next few devotions.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
