A COURAGEOUS WOMAN

“Thus the Jews undertook what they started to do, and what Mordecai had written to them.  For Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the adversary of all the Jews, had schemed against the Jews to destroy [consume] them and had cast Pur, that is the lot, to disturb them and destroy them.

“But when it came to the king’s attention, he commanded by letter that his wicked scheme which he had devised against the Jews should return on his own head and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

“Therefore they called these days Purim after the mane of Pur.  And because of the instructions in this letter, both what they had seen in this regard and what had happened to them, the Jews established and made a custom for themselves and for their descendants and for all those who allied themselves with them, so that they would not fail to celebrate these two days according to their appointed time annually.” Esther 9:23-27

We’ve made it all the way to Esther, as we walk through Scripture, focused on the one word “consumed”.  The word only occurs once in Esther -- this convoluted, cliff-hanger mystery.  We see once again God demonstrating His amazing power and foresight.  In the end, Esther, humbly speaks up to a king teetering on the brink of annihilating the Jewish nation and everything changes.

We must always remember that God is not only powerful and perfect in His intentions, actions and decisions, but His foreknowledge and foresight is perfect and most of all that we can trust Him!  And wherever we may be, it is just where we are supposed to be for our ultimate good and His glory.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
