Weaned?

“O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; nor do I involve myself in great matters, or in things too difficult for me. Surely I have composed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child rests against his mother, my soul is like a weaned child within me.” Psalm 131:1-2

The word weaned means “to deal fully with”. In ancient times the process took about three years before a child could be entrusted to others. Once weaned, a child no longer frets for what it used to find indispensable. When we have learn to be free of the nagging, self-serving, selfish bondage to doubt, guilt and efforts to please and can be content to rest in God’s care, despite hardship or how little (or much) we have, where we are and what we’ve accomplished, we are weaned. Otherwise, the process continues until we are.

“To whom would He teach knowledge? And to whom would He interpret the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just taken from the breast? -- Indeed He will speak to this people through stammering lips and a foreign tongue, He who said to them, ‘Here is rest, give rest to the weary,’ and, ‘Here is repose,’ but they would not listen. So the Word of the Lord to them will be, ‘Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line. A little here, a little there’, that they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.” Isaiah 28:9

PS: Carla’s Mom will be in the hospital the next two weeks. Her Dad seems to be stronger. Please pray for Carla and her amazing family. Pray for Ian and Gerarda (recovery from serious injuries); continue to pray for David and Adrian with ongoing health battles; and for Adrian’s uncle who is growing older and more tired.
