Scriptures For God's Promises (Audio Bible) (8min 58 sec)

By DailyEffectivePrayer

It is strange how we remember promises, especially when someone else promises them.  I suppose that is good because a promise is not just empty words, but a sealing of an action.

There are promises we make in advance of an event… such as promising our parents we will do our homework before we see it and there are promises we make after something happens… such as promising to never let ‘that’ happen again.

God’s promises have also been made before and after events.  The very first ‘before’ promise would be:

“And the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life; and I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; and He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel.’” Genesis 3:14-15

An after promise would be, “And it came about on the next day that Moses said to the people, ‘You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the Lord, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.’

“Then Moses returned to the Lord, and said, ‘Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves.  But now, if Thou wilt, forgive their sin – and if not, please blot me out from Thy book which Thou hast written!’  And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book.’” Exodus 32:30-33

We can all see that there are conditions with both these promises - and both have consequences for disobeying.
