Alistair Begg (39 minutes)
“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all
together in one place, and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing
violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues resembling
fire, which were being distributed among them, and they rested on each one of
them as each person received the Holy Spirit.
“And they were all filled, that is, diffused throughout
their being with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues –
different languages, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out
clearly and appropriately.
“Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout and
God-fearing men from every nation under heaven.
And when this sound was heard, a crowd gathered, and they were bewildered
because each one was hearing those in the upper room speaking in his own
language or dialect.” Acts 2:1-6
“The death of Christ, not His birth gives us a viewpoint we
have not had before. Christ was a Jew;
He lived under the Old Testament arrangement and kept the laws for the Jews;
and kept the Jewish day of rest. Many of
His teachings were to the Jews with the Old Testament approach and
application.
“When Christ died, however, everything was changed. Now we are in the Church Age, under the New
Covenant, the New Testament. From Moses
to Christ was the age of dispensation of Law; from Pentecost to Christ return
to the Age of Grace, the Church Age.[1]”
Once the Holy Spirit arrived for us all on Pentecost, new
abilities and gifts were distributed, not for individuals to leverage for their
own benefits, but that His Word could be shared to the entire world, not just
the Jews. At this moment, history itself
was rent in two, marking the time before Christ (BC) and the time after His ascension
(AC). Nothing can ever be the same now.
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still
