“Praise the Lord!  Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him for His mighty acts!  Praise Him according to the abundance of His greatness.

“Praise Him with trumpet sound; praise Him with harp and lyre.  Praise Him with tambourine and dancing; praise Him with stringed instruments and flute.

Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with loud cymbals.  Let everything that has breath and every breath of life praise the Lord!  Praise the Lord!  Hallelujah!” The last Psalm in the Bible, Psalm 150 (The Amplified Bible)

This WeakEnd Assignment continues in Mark.  Let’s look more closely at the second chapter.  My plan and prayer is that during the God’s Word Made Plain[1] series and through the book of Mark for the WeakEnd Assignments, you will find not only more treasures in the book, but a new study method to help you as you continue to study the Bible for yourself.

Find an hour and a place where you will be alone and able to focus on His Word.  Take your Bible, a notebook, something to write with and a refreshment.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to quiet your heart and give you new insights as you read His Word.  Thank Him in anticipation.  Then open your Bible to Mark two and read it through one time.  Then use what is there to answer these questions:

1.    Where has Jesus been before verse one of chapter two? (check last week, if you did the assignment) and where is He now?

2.    What happened because of the crowd?

3.    How did Jesus react and what did He do?

4.    What problem arose and from whom?

5.    Why would what Jesus told the man to do, make the Pharisees angry? (Hint:  See question eight below)

6.    Who is the next disciple called and what was his profession?

7.    What did the Pharisees object to and what was Jesus’ answer to them?

8.    The Jews had strict rules about what you could and could not do on the Sabbath.  For a reference in the Old Testament, you may wish to read Deuteronomy 23:25.

9.    What is so sensible about what Jesus answered these religious rulers?

10.          Bonus Question:  This is optional and may take a bit more study and you may wish to complete it later:  Rewrite what you think the parable of the patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment (verses 21-22) in your own words as if you are explaining it to a ten-year old.  What does it mean?

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS

·      Andrew and Toyoko M – arrived safe in Japan.  Please continue to pray for travelling mercies and that their time is filled with surprising blessings and that everything goes smoothly for them and for their safe return to Sydney.

·      Family of Uncle Dwight – (brother of Doris) passed into glory over the weekend, after a life of service as a pastor and example of loving Christ.  Please pray for blessing for those who have stood by him and benefitted from his lifetime of service (he would have been near 100).

·      Kim – lost her Mom earlier this year and recently lost her Dad.  She needs prayers while she deals with the loss of her sweet parents.

·      Rozzy and Jono – will soon board a plane from Sydney to Vancouver Island to serve on the mission field to work with the youth in the mid-north coast (the neediest of the Gospel location in North America).  Pray for travelling mercies, robust health and that God will grant them a child.

·      Sophie – three-year old daughter of a friend is now home from an extended stay in the hospital but still frail and unwell.  Please continue to pray for her, her parents and health carers that they will discover the problem and fix it.

·      Tim – my brother – for his strength and wisdom and that he rests safely and soundly in the arms of the Lord while he deals with growing health difficulties and stresses.  Thanksgiving and praise that the Lord has provided a new health carer who seems competent and skilled.

·      Ray Sr. – battling cancer and has been moved to respite care.  Pray the Lord opens His heart to the Truth of salvation and through this time, relationships with family are strengthened and that Ray Jr and Kathy would be able to know of his decision.

·      Jenny S – Bible teacher at a local Bible school for curiosity under change, as the vision of her organisation changes with new leadership.  Help her identify the balance of her unique contribution with the new focus.  Pray the Lord maintains her health as she walks through this time of stress.

·      David – as his health waxes and wanes during this challenging time.  Pray for Heidi who cares for him -- and his little companion dog, Sparky.  Pray God watches over him and steadies his steps, clears his sight and strengthens his heart.

·      Cathy – as she faces stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  Her chemo has begun.  She is Barb (my sister-in-law’s) sister-in-law.  They have a beautiful family.  Please pray for them and their health carers as they travel through this journey.

·      Pat and Isobel – as they serve tirelessly in challenging times.  Pray the Lord refreshes and strengthens them.

·      Hans – a dear friend in Germany, continues his immunotherapy for lung cancer.  Pray for his ongoing strength through the pain, patience and God’s mercy.  Continue to pray for his healthcare providers and that he is surrounded by faithful and compassionate Christian friends who will support him through this journey.  Pray for his Mom (age 83) who is unwell herself, that their time together will be filled with extraordinary good memories and lots of love.

·      Callilah - a lost child.  Pray the Lord will capture her heart.

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.

Pray for the World
