YOU KNOW BETTER!

“Thus says the Lord, ‘For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they rejected the law of the Lord and have not kept His statues; their lies also have led them astray, those after which their fathers walked.  So I will send fire upon Judah and it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.’

“Thus says the Lord, ‘For three transgressions of Israel and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they sell the righteous for money and the needy for a pair of sandals.

“These who plant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helpless also turn aside the way of the humble; and a man and his father resort to the same girl in order to profane My holy name.  On garments taken as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.’” Amos 2:5-6

After Solomon died there was a lot of fighting over who would replace him.  Eventually, the nation is split into Judah, ruled by Rehoboam (one of Solomon’s sons) and Israel, ruled by another of Solomon’s sons, Jeroboam (who had rebelled against Rehoboam).

I suspect the two nations imagined because they were ‘God’s chosen people’ they would enjoy special favours from God.  But God doesn’t work that way.  God had punished other nations harshly for their evil actions and atrocities, and God promised to judge His people because they ignored the revealed law of God.

The other nations were ignorant, but God’s people knew what God wanted.  Yet they ignored Him and joined pagan nations in worshipping idols.  If we know God’s Word and refuse to obey it, as Israel did, we will carry greater guilt.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
