REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING?

“Thus says the Lord, ‘For three transgressions of Tyre and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they delivered up an entire population to Edom and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.  So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it will consume her citadels.’

“Thus says the Lord, ‘For three transgressions of Edom and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword, while he stifled his compassion; his anger also tore continually, and he maintained his fury forever.  So I will send fire upon Teman, and it will consume the citadels of Bozra.’

“Thus says the Lord, ‘For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their borders.  So I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it will consume her citadels amid war cries on the day of battle and a storm on the day of the tempest.  Their kings will go into exile, he and his princes together,’ says the Lord.”  Amos 1:9-15

The principles of this passage in Amos is repeated frequently throughout Scripture.  God in the Old Testament left leadership and management of His world to His children, yet they turned against Him as they sought something ‘better’.

God set apart a special people and entrusted then with protective laws and rules to guard their hearts and draw them closer to each other and to Him.  They were to stand as a reminder to all that there was a better way and it was in obeying God.  Yet, God’s chosen people were also easily drawn away regularly and God had to take regular corrective action.

Then He sent Jesus, the fulfilment of His promise -- from Genesis -- because only grace can cover the naturally evil hearts of those on earth.  That is our hope today -- to trust Him with our life!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
