FROGS

“Yet I have been the Lord your God since the land of Egypt; and you were not to know any god except Me, for there is no saviour besides Me.  I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of draught.  As they had their pasture, they became satisfied.  And being satisfied, their heart became proud; therefore, they forgot Me.

“So I will be like a lion to them; like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside.  I will encounter them life a bear robbed of her cubs, and I will tear open their chests; there I will also devour [consume] them like a lioness, as a wild beast would tear them.” Hosea 13:8-10

God indulged Israel and hoped that love and provision would bind their hearts to obeying His will for them.  In this way He could protect them from the hidden dangers and distractions the world flooded them with.  Yet, the people longed to be like those they saw around them andl God had no choice but to bring them to judgment.

Charles Handy wrote The Age of Unreason[1].  In it, he tells the story of a frog placed in a pot of cold water, set on a stove while gentle heat is applied.  The frog happily paddles around and by the time the water is too hot, the strength of the frog to jump out is gone.

Perhaps we too are often distracted as we tread water in a world that is constantly changing.  Without standing on the solid foundation of God’s Word, our strength to resist diminishes.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
