DON'T EVER MESS WITH GOD'S CHILDREN!

“’For the day of the Lord draws near on all the nations.  As you have done, it will be done to you.  Your dealings will return on your own head.  Because just as you drank on My holy mountain; all nations will drink continually, they will drink and swallow and become as if they had never existed.

“’But on Mount Zion there will be those who escape.  And it will be holy.  And the house of Jacob will possess their possessions.  Then the house of Jacob will be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame; but the house of Esau will be as stubble.  And they will set them on fire and consume them so that there will be no survivor of the house of Esau.’ For the Lord has spoken.”  Obadiah 1:15-18

“Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.  But the children struggled together within her; and she said, ‘if it is so, why then am I this way?’  So she went to inquire of the Lord.

“The Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb; and two peoples will be separated from your body; and one people shall be stronger than the other; and the older shall serve the younger.’” Genesis 25:21-23

The story of Jacob and Esau was a tragedy for Esau.  His resentment grew and thrived in the heart of his descendants until their arrogant defiance allowed them to stand by while Jacob’s descendants were defeated and captured.

But God was not asleep.  Obadiah (the shortest book of the Old Testament) stands as a warning for all those today who are proud and overconfident in themselves, whether they are a nation, a corporation, a church or a family.

Just as Edom was destroyed to dust for its pride, so will anyone be who lives in defiance of God.  God will judge and fiercely punish all who harm His children.  We can be confident in God’s final victory.  He is our champion, and we can trust him to bring about true and ultimate justice.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
