THINKING OF THANKS - PART 1

What's the Truth About the First Thanksgiving?

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice!  Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men.  The Lord is near.  Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:4-6

“ … but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God,” Ephesians 5:18b-20

Did you know there are a total of 178 instances of the word ‘thanks’ in Scripture?  106 of them occur in the Old Testament; 72 in the New Testament.  Psalms has the most in the Old Testament with 66 and it surprised me to realise that I and II Corinthians have equal and the most occurrences (9 each) in the New Testament.  (If you would like a list of them, please send me an email to:  darlenerichard@gmail.com )

Thanksgiving remains -- for the most part -- a unique American holiday where commercialism is minimised and core, biblical values -- such as reuniting family members over food, memories, sharing with others and love -- is the focus.  For those of you who can be with family members tomorrow / today, that is a blessing to be very thankful for.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

PS:  Please pray for this ministry.  This is the 20th year of endeavouring to serve others in His name to offer a smattering of Scripture daily.  Find my statement of faith by clicking (or cut and paste this link into your Web browser):  https://especiallyhislove.blogspot.com   You can find the WeakDay Devotion online by doing a Google search for “WeakDay Devotion”  (Also, there is an android “Google Blogger” app you can download to read them on your phone.)
