SOMETIMES OVER THE TOP?

“’And you, son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God concerning the sons of Ammon and concerning their reproach,’ and say:  ‘A sword, a sword is drawn, polished for the slaughter, to cause it to consume, that it may be like lightening –

"'while they see for you false visions, while they divine lies for you – to place you on the necks of the wicked who are slain, whose day has come, in the time of the punishment of the end.

“’Return it to its sheath.  In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.  I will pour out My indignation on you; I will blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and I will give you into the hand of brutal men, skilled in destruction.  Y

"'ou will be fuel for the fire; your blood will be in the midst of the land.  You will not be remembered, for I, the Lord, have spoken.’” Ezekiel 21:28-32

Have you ever read something (especially in the Old Testament) that sounds a bit over the top?  You wonder what God was thinking?  In this passage, the Ammonites and Israelites had united to fight against Babylon.

God had instructed the Israelites not to ally with foreign nations.  They were to depend on and trust Him to defend them, not a foreign army.  This blatant disobedience resulted in God’s discipline.

God first judged Judah (remember Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel?).  Then He judged Ammon, not for allying with Judah, but for watching with glee as Jerusalem was destroyed.

God demonstrates His sovereign power in many ways to draw the world’s attention back to Him.  Sometimes His actions are purposefully dramatic and awesome, so the world cannot miss seeing and feeling His power so all men are drawn to follow Him only!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

PS:  Please pray for this ministry.  This is the 20th year of endeavouring to serve others in His name to offer a smattering of Scripture daily.  Find my statement of faith by clicking (or cut and paste this link into your Web browser):  https://especiallyhislove.blogspot.com   You can find the WeakDay Devotion online by doing a Google search for “WeakDay Devotion”  (Also, there is a “Google Blogger” app you can download to read them on your phone.)
