By Hear God’s Word

“Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

“Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.” Matthew 4:18-22

The call of God is not for a special few, it is for you. Whether or not you hear God’s call depends on the state of your ears. When you hear depends on your disposition.

‘Many are called but few are chosen’ -- yet God always calls each of us. It is our choice to prove ourselves willing. The chosen ones are those who have come into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And because of this relationship, their disposition is different and they can hear the still small voice always whispering, ‘Who will go for Us?’

When our Lord called His disciples, each one had different life experiences, gifts, talents and a past. Yet, each one stopped to listen and focus completely on Jesus as He called, resisting the insistent distractions of life.   The sweet and gentle call of His ‘Follow Me’ is spoken to you and me. Will we choose to listen?

Assignment

  1. Set aside an hour and find a place where you can be alone with the Lord.

  • 1. Have your Bible, notebook, something to write with and a refreshment.

  • 2. Settle your heart and pray that the Lord will improve your hearing of His call in your life and walk and that He will bring you new insights through your study today.

  • 3. Read Isaiah 6, making notes, as you read, of the parts that seem important for you.

  • 4. Answer these questions:

  • a. How is the Lord described?

  • b. How does Isaiah react?

  • c. What are the reasons for the mission God is choosing Isaiah for?

  • 5. Consider your life experiences, gifts, talents and past and how -- who you are in Christ – has equipped you for listening and taking action in His name.

  • 6. Write down three ways you can take action from your discoveries.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)

Pray for those in full-time service

Pray to uphold our Christian leaders – that they never compromise God’s Word, are bold and courageous in the face of evil.  Pray for their wisdom, safety, ingenuity, strength and for their families.

Pray for those with ongoing health concerns

Many of us have family, friends and loved ones with fragile health.  Pray God takes special care with them and protects them in practical ways and that the Lord will have mercy on them during this challenging time.
