By Got Questions Ministry

“You shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart; you may surely reprove your neighbour, but shall not incur sin because of him.  You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself; I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:17-18

“’You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.  But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

“’For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?  Do not even tax collectors do the same?  If you only greet your brothers, what more are you doing than others?  Do not even the Gentiles do the same?  Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48

“’’Honour your father and mother’; and ‘you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’’” Matthew 19:19

“’The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’’” Matthew 22:39

“’The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’  There is no other commandment greater than these.’” Mark 12:31

As we continue with this series, I pray you are finding it interesting to learn more about the things Jesus referred to from the authority of the known Scriptures to those around Him.  His teachings were never random.

He taught those He met as individuals -- small and huge groups.  He taught those who were simple and ordinary in their thinking -- to the most learned.  He taught those discovered in and those accused of sin and those who imagined they were perfect in light of the Law.  He taught direct and clear lessons -- and lessons in parables that had special and sometimes, seemingly hidden meaning.

Most of all He continually taught His disciples knowing that the future of His message rested in them knowing and carrying His words to others.  How blessed we are to be part of that mission!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
